Did I miss why you picked St Thomas instead of St Croix? I had the idea you were enamored with ST Croix...

LOL, well I booked the interviews before all the changes happened at the hospital in STX. I did know more people there. I had friends I went to school with and other friends of friends that I was introduced to that were from the states and graduated in PR from my same program May 2010 and I started August 2010. So I knew a lot of people.

I didn't know anyone on STT except one friend I go to school with that I had completely forgotten about.

Before visiting I thought STT would be too touristy and it kind of is but not in a bad way and I know it will be different when I live there. But I like the island of STT better but the MAIN factor is STT still has CNAs and LPNs, which is huge, HUGE.

My friends working in STX say it is a complete nightmare and some of them have already left because the working conditions are so bad. The rest that are still there are trying to get out or can’t because of various reasons like romantic relationships and everyone working there says I would be a fool to move there to work in the hospital on STX. This is all from RNs there or ones that left right after the changes.

Everything is leading me to STT. And the funny thing is all the people I know at school from both STX and STT say they all see me on STT over STX. They sat I will fit in better on STT.

Chanel, thanks to your positive review of Bluebeard's, I bought one of their timeshare units. I had been thinking about it for a while, and your review was just the encouragement I needed. I bought a week in November, and may buy another. My place is too small for guests, so I can offer them my timeshare if they want to come visit.

Wow I am glad to help. I thought you were looking for a place to stay in town on occasion. I loved the place and especially for the price but I hope you looked at it yourself.

By the way how much was the unit and all the fees? Wouldn't it be easier to just put your friends up in a hotel? Wouldn't it cost about the same after you add in all the maintenance fees and such?

OK below is a list of 12 places. I tried to put them in order of cost but that is only one way of sorting them. Some obviously have a lot more rooms then other so you don't need to book so far in advance which will be my case. As soon as I pass my boards I am coming over but I don't know exactly when that will be.

Some of them really are NOT a good deal but I tried to include every place that was mentioned here. So starting at Sunset Gardens, Galleon House, Villa Olga, and Green Iguana are all a rip off in my opinion but those last 3 don't do monthly really so they are giving a discounted nightly rate. And the Mafolie Hotel flat out said they didn't do monthly and didn't offer anything.

So below is the list:

Miller Manor
http://millermanor.com/
Weekly rates start at $200. Rates depend on room and bed size and whether there is a kitchen. All utilities are paid, but if you want air conditioning, there is an added fee.

Two Sandals By the Sea Inn
http://www.twosandals.com/
800/mo for a room with a shared bathroom and $1,000/mo for a room with a private bathroom (based on single occupancy). We also require a $500 security deposit. The price includes all utilities and wireless internet access. There is also a shared kitchen with a full-sized fridge, sink, stove, microwave, coffeemaker, and toaster. No laundry on premises.

Crystal Palace
http://www.crystalpalaceusvi.com/
Must call property, as it is only certain times of year like Aug to Nov if available in one of the 5 rooms. If available the rate is 900 to 1000 depending on the room.

Magens Point Resort
http://www.magenspoint.com/
950.00 per month and electricity is included. AC, small dorm size refrigerator, 2 burner stove top, microwave, toaster

Point Pleasant Resort
http://www.pointpleasantresort.com
1,100.00 for a junior suite plus you are responsible for electricity, 550 security deposit is required and will be returned once they assess there is no damage.

Pineapple Village
http://www.pineapplevillas.com/
1,000 without kitchen, 1,300 with kitchen must book in advance.

Sapphire Village
http://www.sapphirevillage.com/rental.htm
You have to contact each property separately which is a pain and they want you to book way in advance which is not possible but was quoted 1,400 plus utilities per month for two months. I believe one month would have been a bit more.

Sunset Gardens Suites
http://sunsetgardensvi.com/Suites_Rates_Reservation.htm
prices listed on site: 599 to 699 weekly or 1,800 to 2,000 a month for a studio

Galleon House
www.galleonhouse.com
If I arrive in the fall (off-season), she could do 70 per night, which comes to 2,100.00 per month or 490 a week. There is no kitchen but comes with breakfast

Villa Olga in Frenchtown
http://www.villa-olga-inn.com/
They don’t really do monthly but can offer a monthly rate is $2500.00 plus tax. The rate includes electric, water, cable, small fridge, microwave and a coffee maker.

Green Iguana
http://www.thegreeniguana.com/
Don’t do monthly but can give a discounted rate. 30 days at $75.00 per night plus tax so one month at 2772.00 ($2250 Room Rate, $270 Energy Surcharge, $252 Hotel Tax). Weekly rates at $777 for 7 nights.

Mafolie Hotel
http://www.mafolie.com/
Do not do monthly

Chanel, the maintenance is less than $600 for a week in Nov, so I thought that was a good price. I'm thinking about getting another one at the Elysian.

Thanks for posting your research. Very helpful.

You are too funny. Sounds like you have a lot of people that visit. I had a few people visit me in Puerto Rico but everyone wants to come visit me in STT, especially all my nursing student friends who live in PR. I better make sure I have at least enough space for an Aerobed.

People from the States like to use too much water and need air conditioning. I only have one bathroom. My guests and I will be much more comfortable with them at Bluebeard's.

I know this is a pretty old thread, but does anyone have an idea on how accurate these prices are today? I've checked all their sights and the rates are different(I'm assuming you have to call for these special one month rates?). I'll be needing a short term rental 2-6 weeks come June or July. Really depends on how long the house/ car hunt is going to take(decided against shipping the Jeep).

It's a newer jeep and in good condition. I do hope the island will be my home I'm searching for, but in the past I tend to get the urge to move every year or so(or has been the case for NC, Japan and Maine). So I figure feel it out for a few months before I ship out the jeep. Shipping a vehicle from Maine is a bit steep.

Alana33, thanks for the posting. I am looking for something a bit lower in price though.

Has anyone else had experience in short term rentals while car and house hunting in the some what recent past?

Only had one B&B experience on the coast of Maine and enjoyed it. Crystal Palace looks like a great place and not a bad price at all and you get breakfest. Have you stayed there Ronnie or are you associated with the property?
