STORES THAT SHIP TO THE VIRGIN iSLANDS
lol, thanks for the morning chuckle
lol about the chips - update on shoes... Sanuks for the WIN! Seriously the most comfortable shoes ever. Walked for 8 hours a day in very steep cities. Wore the vionics for the first two days and they made my feet hurt a little but still better than most sandals. The Sanuks for the rest of the trip and no pain at all.
Well this is interesting. I needed to order a few things from Walmart and figured I'd take advantage of the free shipping and add a few staples to the order that are half the cost of buying on island. I didn't expect all of it to ship together but figured they would group the staples together to minimize the shipping cost. Not so much. Bag of coffee, box of tea bags, box of cereal arrives 6/14. 1 bag of Tostitos arrives 6/24. 1 bag of Lays chips arrives 6/30. We'll see how this works out.
My last Wal-Mart order ran the same way. I had about 6-8 items in my order and all but 2 shipped in separate parcels over six weeks. Never again. The last item, which of course was the main thing I needed out of the entire order, took so long to show up that I put in for a refund. It finally did appear about a week after that.
All my scheduled delivery dates are OK with me. We'll see how it goes. Some items have already been delivered. The latest items scheduled for end of June delivery, the bag of potato chips and bag of corn chips were shipped FEDEX to the USPS for final delivery (two separate shipments, lol.) The hand off probably explains the later delivery. The USPS will probably put them on the boat, that's usually 3 weeks, The last item I ordered that shipped UPS to USPS for delivery, ended up showing up on schedule, but that was like 4 weeks from order date.
KEEN ships for free
Well the nacho chips finally showed up, right on schedule. Same day as the sell by date. Not too worse for wear.
lol, took long enough
Still waiting for the potato chips and one other non-food item. Was due 2 days ago.
Anyone order from Walmart lately? Now I'm seeing a location surcharge show up with the "free value shipping". Surcharge doesn't show up for continental US destination.
PS- Chips finally showed up a few days later OK, just in time for sell by date. Other item arrived broken (separate box) and had to be re-shipped, another month, and finally arrived last week OK this time. First shipment only had a scrap of paper in the box for packing, second was packed much better.
No more free shipping from Wal-Mart to VI
With all due respect, if anyone living here feels they have to rely on Walmart or any other internet supplier to keep their cupboards stocked with snack chips ...
They sell a tad more than snack chips....., the shipping is all the same
If anyone thought it was just about the snacks/chips.....
Darn, after placing several orders with Walmart in the last year you'd think I'd remember by now that they sell more than chips. Silly me. Several posts on this thread were dedicated to the chip-shipping dilemma and the neurons got clogged up and misfired ...
Did anyone else notice that Walmart is charging more for shipping? I was eyeing a desk a couple days ago and the shipping charge was 4 and change, now the shipping is 38 dollars.
Shipping is never really free now is it? Its just an illusion, buried in the overall cost of goods that everyone pays. I have all my internet purchase shipped to Paradise Freight unless they mail them here directly.
But free shipping? It never enters my mind when placing an order.

But the cost of the goods IS relative. There are several items I can purchase online which are either unavailable here or are way more expensive than comparable or same items available here. Free shipping in that scenario is a huge savings.
junkyarddog, seems that changed over the past week.
I consider availability as OT said as well as total cost including shipping when deciding where to purchase. If ordering on-line with shipping saves me a few dollars and I don't need the items in a hurry then chances are I'll go that route.
The only change I've noticed with Walmart is the surcharge as otherwise I'd have had free value shipping. I've been working on building up another order in the shopping cart for the past couple weeks trying to determine which items they would actually ship v.s. not. Between not having any shipping available at all on half the items I'm looking at (sold by Walmart) and this new surcharge I'll probably just end-up ordering from Amazon.

The chips order was never a dilemma, that was a small part of a larger order of housewares that shipped in multiple lots, scheduled for delivery on different days over a few weeks, and arrived close to expected. The chips were more of an experiment with lessons learned posted.

That IS a problem with Walmart. A while back I had an order all set and it was only at checkout that two small items were deemed not deliverable to my location - but they were tagged for pickup at some Walmart store in Georgia!
It's trial and error. Filter on the only ship to home walmart.com items, add items to cart, click checkout, use to be it would just say item can't be shipped to VI zip code but today it now gives option to select shipping option for each item, except for the one's it wont ship it says item can only be picked up. Before there was a delete option for the no ship items, now there is only the option continue with pickup or you can go back to the cart. Phooey.
I've been shopping a lot at http://banggood.com
They ship to the VI. Most things ship free. I've been satisfied with everything so far and great prices. Stuff arrives in two weeks.
