I'd like to know what things would be smart to bring w/ me that are hard to find or cost prohibitive on the islands . Thanks , Rob

nothing is hard to find, whethter on island or online. Walmart.com does not ship toiletries now, but drugstor.com does and for pet, there are places that ship that are cheaper than on island.
bring your own electricity, jk. everything is cost prohibitive down here and will get worse.

Spices if you like to cook as pretty costly here.
Nice sheet sets as our choices, limited.

Yes but I just bought 700 thread count sheets from JCPenny on sale for $72.00 with $12.00 shipping - costs more to buy them in the States and bring them down in a checked bag 🙂

I have 5 boxes 24x24x24 packed with stuff (mostly toiletries... sisters a couponer) and just found out cheapest shipping is $100 each box. I've decided just to donate it to the homeless shelter here an buy it all there. I figured it would save me $ but reality is that shipping to the VI is more than the stuff worth lol. Lesson learned for me. Quoted FedEx, ups at like $500 a box! USPS was cheapest for the 100. Oh well, just gonna jam a couple suitcases, bring the cats and call it good.

Blu has the right idea, lots of cash LOL!

Find out the weight limit for flight. Most airlines allow one free carry on and $25.00 charge for non carryon,$90.00 or more if over the weight limit. Weight limit usually 50 lbs.

If you bring what you like, then you get what you like.
Sometimes it is worth the shipping costs to have what you want and shall enjoy.
Hard to find things with limited choices available.
USPS best.

Did you look at the USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes? $15.45 for the largest, max weight 70 lbs. Many of us here use those as the most efficient and least expensive way to ship.

We shipped just such boxes "parcel post" 6 months ago. Cost about 25 -30 depending on weight and got to the destination in about 6 weeks. This method works well for things that you want but don't need right away.

I looked and the boxes were like 12x15x6?? Maybe I will look again. Thanks.

Bombi: the Caesar dressing at the place on east end next to the gas station with the pool table outside is to die for! We made out own salads and bought sides of dressing from them lol. Is it top siders? I forget the name....

A+A there's a weight limit for non flat-rate boxes too... think it's @70#
but still, shouldn't be $100!

Yeah, that definitely doesn't sound right. I shipped at least eight boxes for about $100. It took three or four weeks, I believe, however. Ship a few weeks before you are to arrive and they should get there soon after you are on island.

Definitely send or bring with you, spices if you like to cook!!! They are major expensive here and are small enough to put in your suitcases when coming down. I, also, know several snowbirds that mail their coffee here as it is expensive also.

Bring razors. You would have to check them or ship them.
Any kind of Over the counter drugs I buy when I go back to the states. I ship them in a flat rate box.
I also use CVS.com when they have sales.

Very nice quality down pillows seem to be non-existent here.
I always have to order from the states.
