Stacey Plaskett's snub to President Obama on Cuba delegation
Couldn't agree more with the VI Consortium's editorial board comments:

She's done a great disservice to the territory, unbefitting her position.

Face time with the President. What a missed opportunity no matter what your political beliefs.
The ONLY way I can accept that this was a good move on her part will be if she comes out soon with an announcement or two from the political attendees that proves she has gained support for VI incentives and/or financial incentives from the techie attendants. That would balance out the loss of obtaining the outgoing President's ear and respect.
But I feel sure that that is a pipe dream on my part, and this was all because of her misguided stance that inroads into Cuba and help for the VI are mutually exclusive. And I believe that it was done for personal political advancement only.
i was a bit surprised whn i heard she snubbed him too.
Hopefully, she's a one term delegate.
Or maybe after living and working in DC politics for a good part of her career, she has more opportunities to get facetime with the Prez when needed during the normal course of business than you give her credit for.
And maybe not.
She's supported a few things that I find questionable and disheartening from an environmental standpoint.
Nor does she or her staff respond to inquiries, I've discovered.
And accepting his invite could be seen as a backstabbing effort. A support of the opening of Cuba, which is going to impact our tourism product. Damned if she does, damned if she doesn't.
Maybe she would have also had an inkling of what Cuba has to offer as well as a dialogue with our President. It's a missed opportunity and unfortunate.

If you are correct, then please tell us when the President's earlier invitations occurred and did she accept and meet with him.
I bet we don't get your answer on this because you're dreaming. If you have some facts, let us know!

You have your opinion and I have mine. Just pointing out that they both work in very high positions for the same company and will inevitably cross paths here and there.
Saturday's Avis had an article on her CBC panel discussion. Supposedly 5 congressional members showed (no names or districts mentioned) and "more than a dozen business leaders from Washington DC".
They talked about getting more Internet connections in homes to bridge the digital divide which is what VINGN is supposed to be doing.
It's very disappointing that only 5 showed. Not enough numbers to move the needle for votes, imo.
The rest of them probably cancelled to go to Cuba.
That's what I was thinking, Alana. Bad timing on her part.

Thousands of people who work in DC for either government entities or public corporations have the opportunity to "cross paths" with the President but this in no way translates to them having the President's ear. Ms Plaskett made a very poor choice.
Ms Plaskett made a very poor choice.
What I am pointing out is that the statement above is not a fact. It is an opinion. I have a different opinion. Neither can be determined to be fact based on the information available so why continue to insist that it can only have been a bad decision as if there is no alternative? The only fact is that we don't know whether it was a good decision or not.
I was questioning more your assertion that her experience working in DC afforded her special privileges communicating one on one with the President than on your opinion which of course you're entitled to. There was no "insistence" there other than the reassertion of my opinion.

I agree with you, what a shame.
