St Thomas Schneider Hospital
Hi All. I am considering taking a job at Schneider. Can someone tell me the best place to look for rental housing near there? Also, how long does it take to get from one of the island to the other? I am just browsing rentals and it looks like they are spread out all over in my price range. It wouldn't be until October that I would be arriving.
Is it possible to bicycle around the island? I would rather not bring a car if I can get away with it!
Thank you in advance
Monique
i would not recommend a bicycle to get around the island
Especially not on STT for a bike.
Our terrain is mountainous, very little flat areas and lack of sidewalks on majority of our roads.
You really want to live on island you will be working on.
Commuting will otherwise be a pain in the butt in very short order, time consuming and expensive.
Bakkaro, Mafolie, Louisenhoj, northside all can give fairly easy commute.
You'll need a car no matter where you live.
Very limited public transportation and majority of locations have none.
Contact a local Realtorto see what your rental options are just prior to your arrival. They can help with locations with your commuting desires.
Thank you! I have realized I will have to bring the car. I was offered the job, so I will be starting all of the relo craziness in a couple of months. Just one other question, exactly how bad is the internet really? My grad degree program is online, I have to make sure I will be able to actually do the things I have to do for school.

You should be able to get a reliable internet connection - a few different options and speeds
No matter who provides your internet the speed and connection is pretty reliable. Many people here are cord cutters because they can rely on the connection.
Hello Monique,
My wife worked at RLS in '05-'06. We lived on the East End near Coki beach and in the early morning it took less than 15 minutes to get to the hospital. That commute changes drastically once all the cruise ships are in port, though. Many travel nurses (used to at least) live at the Sapphire Village condos. I'd suggest exploring the island and seeing what areas work best for you. Good luck with the relocation!

Thank you! I need to try to find a place that allows pets, from what I have seen that may be a herculean task. 🙂
Some condos allow pets, small dogs, with board approval.
Nothing at Sapphire Bay does.
Your best bet is to contact a Realtor to help with your search.
