Greetings,

My wife and I are a thinking of moving to St. Thomas in the Spring of '05. While we've never been to the USVIs, we have spent alot of time in Jamaica.

We both are reggae musicians and would like to know if there is a demand for reggae in St. Thomas, or whether someone thinks one could make a modest living as an entertainer on the island.

I would also like to know if the Rastafarian community is active. ie; out in the community and accepted amongst Thomians.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Can't speak to your questions re. musician demand, but as far as the Rastafarian community. ..
There is a thriving Rasta community on-island, much of which is involved in organic farming in Bordeaux (an area on teh West end of the island). There are also many services (ital rests. and organic food stores) available to ensure that you will be comfortable.

I've read about We Grow Food and was curious in general about the community.

Everything is everything.

You also might want to check out St. Croix. There is also a large Rastafarian community there, you'll feel accepted. I can't speak for St. Thomas though, but I get the impression it's bigger in St. Croix than St. Thomas for some strange reason.

I know a bredren from St. Croix whose urged me to visit and considered making my roots in frederiksted.....however I'm very curious about St. Thomas and the community there. I'm also aware that St. Thomas is a more lively island.

Thanks for the info.

Interesting Dominic.
Although I am not tapped into the Rasta community, I too have noticed that STX seems to have a larger, more active community.
Actually, I think STX is generally more active and grassroots (I wanted to move there for a hot minute). But that's just my opinion.
Jahson, you should come and feel out both islands b/c they are vastly different. While STT is more lively, I think STX has a better sense of community.

On StX my husband and I met a rasta man who had a studio for reggae in one of the places we looked at. He gave us a CD and it has a website.

Good Luck...
