St. Thomas Historical Trust selects new leadership
The St. Thomas Historical Trust has added five new board members and chosen a new set of officers for 2007, the civic group has announced.
Ronald Lockhart is the trust’s new president, while Philip Sturm is now vice-president and treasurer and Lois Hassel-Habtes is secretary.
New board members are Joanne Bozzuto, John Woods, Fraser Drummond, Trevor Milner and Jacob Spell. They join sitting board members Cynthia Jerry, Michael Sheen, Alton Adams, Jr., Mary-Ann Hickey, Sean Krigger, Cordell Jacobs, Felipe Ayala, Jr., Carol Fava, Josie Kean, Sunil Mohannani and Cynthia Lawrence.
The group is focused on preserving history of St. Thomas and now is working with the National Park Service and the Friends of the National Park in the preservation of Hassel Island.
Now, where did you find that? In today's paper? Thanks.
RL
Yes, it is a brief in the paper. I delicately typed it with my own fingers!! Congrats, BTW.
When are you going to conduct the Hassel Island tours for locals??? Inquiring minds, you know...
A true leader among men. Would you honor me by rapping my knuckles this coming June with your presidential gavel....it would be an honor.
Congrats.
Congrats Ronnie!
I have an idea for you, that we discussed briefly while I was there - having to do with the wondeful old post cards you collect - the old view of a street interscetion of building alongside one of how it looks today! Perhaps even displaying this in a placard or soemthing out and about town?! Something perhaps to consider as restoration of various elements and buildings continue to appear!
Best of luck in your tenure in this position. Does your new "job" give you any say so over the managment of the Restoration of Fort Christian? Last I heard this project had "stalled out"?
Stalled out for the usual reason in the VI. No money!! As soon as they find whee they put it they will start back again!
That renovation is under the auspices of the State Historic Preservation Office.(SHPO) SHPO is the government entity that oversees historic detail. The Historic Preservation Commission that I also serve on, determines what can and can not be done, based on the law and a some other variables. Very controversial sometimes!
The Trust's goals are similar but we have no say in day to day activity of the Government arm. Most times it is very confusing. Even more now that I am on both!
The Trust recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the VI National Park to assist in getting funding to save Hassel Island. This will be our major project in the next few years.
Ronnie
PS. Paul, Maybe you should come down and visit so we can figure outthe post card project!
