St. John-Cruz Bay Watersports
For the past 5 or so years I have had an urgent and strong desire to experience Caribbean life first-hand. I am a Purdue student looking to take a semester and possibly summer to move down to the USVI and have a job or better yet an internship since one is required for my degree in Hospitality and Tourism management. This website and forum is awesome and I have learned so much already. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I have recently been emailing with Cruz Bay Watersports in search of a water sports job/internship. Does anyone from St. John or the Cruz Bay area know anything about their credibility and about any past interns there? They are the concessionaire for the Westin Hotel and Resort there. I was also wondering if anyone knows about internship availability at the Westin there.

aj,
To have stayed is business that long in the Caribbean they would almost have to be a well run company Also you might want to consider sending your resume to the Marriott on St Thomas they are going through a major expansion right now and are actively advertising for positions at their new time share villas. Also the Wyndham (sp?) just purchased a closed down resort on St Thomas and will be reopening it as a times share/hotel. Also on the water you have Yacht Haven Marina that is a major redevelopment in St Thomas they are opening several, four or five restaurants and a small hotel as well as a mega-yacht marina and condos. All of it controlled by the parent company. The marina and one of the restaurants is open and going through a soft opening though out the next year of the additional amenities.
Good luck
Captain Jay
Thanks a lot for the input, I will definitely check out the Marriott there and the Wyndham.

I think that Cruz Bay Watersports on STJ would be a fun internship job.
You could also contact Mel from Water World Outfitters on STT. They have a shop in Havensight, a new one in Yacht Haven Grande, and a small shop at the Marriott (where his office is). They are always in need of people because they are busy catering to the Cruiseships.
