st croix vs.st johns
been living on st croix for 7 months now.job just isn't working out...promises made were broken.surprise surprise.i'm a carpenter with 27 years experience and am curious what opinions you all might share of moving to st johns if i line up job.info about cost of living and job wages are from 2006 on this sight and i was wondering if anyone knows what wages would be average and about how much to live there currently. what is the crime rate like there?if things don't work out i'm afraid i might have to head back to states where i have guarenteed work.
Good afternoon remodeler,
I think you mean St. John, USVI, not St. John's, Antigua, right?
The amount of work on St. John is much more limited than on St. Croix, simply because it's a much smaller place. Many of the carpenters who live on STJ full time (and there are quite a few) have had to go elsewhere during the past year to find work, or simply get by on less. If you have a project lined up, are good at what you do, and show up reliably, you might be able to line up more work after you finish the first project... but you might not. With various project bankruptcies, etc., there simply hasn't been enough to go around for all the people who already live here.
The cost of living on STJ is about 30% more than on STX. STJ has relatively little crime compared with STT and STX.
Good luck to you!
