St. Croix/ St. Thomas Apartments and Questions
Hey I was just seeing what anyone can tell me about living on the islands. I am a 20 year old male college student that is looking to relocate from the states to St Croix or St Thomas. I can't really find too many rentals on the islands and was seeing if anyone knew of any sites that provide 1 bedroom/ studio furnished apartments? It would be nice to find a place under 700 or cheaper for a month by month, 3 month, or 6 month lease. I will be moving in late may or need a lease starting june 1. I love the caribbean and live in the northern states where it is like 30 degrees right now and need to relocate. Fishing, Diving, Snorkeling, Chillin at the beach, and living life laid back is what I need. I have been researching the virgin islands for quite some time and just wanted to know what everyones opinion is on the islands compared to other caribbean islands? I have options of the virgin islands, aruba, bonaire, or any of the islands, but want somewhere that has a decently safe environment for someone living alone. As I read more about the virgin islands I realize that crime might be a bigger issue than places like aruba or bonaire/curaco, which I didn't think at first. I also now realize for even a gallon of milk it is like 6$ in st thomas and st croix. I also have a huge passion for cliff diving and was wondering if there are any places to cliff dive in the virgin islands. I remember in martinique cliff diving into a freshwater river and will never forget just hanging out and doing that all day long. I would be selling my car in the states and getting a boat when i arrive so i was seeing if its possible to not need a car and just have a dirtbike/scooter to get around the island whichever one it may be? Any advice would be appreciated...please no sarcasim ha
Thanks,
Zach
Check out Ronnie's place Villa Fairview on St. Thomas (Ronnie posts here.)
If you're a US citizen you have no problem working legally here. That's not the case on other islands. I assume you will be working? There's crime here. It's not as bad as some islands & worse than a few of them. It's also more hushed up in a few other places. Can't help you about cliff-diving. Good luck!
Many of the questions you ask could be answered by researching this board. Are websites that advertise just rentals? No, but there are some on this board. Please pick a island first, they are not interchangeable. They are very different. There are a tons of posts regarding the differences. You could find a place for under $700 on one of the islands, will it be safe? who knows? As for comparing different Caribbean islands, they are all very different. You are going to be an outsider where ever you go and new if you want to be safer I would say in the usvi where you have some rights as a citizen and you will find on the other islands that it could well be hard to get work as a non citizen. No cliff diving (do all 20 year olds want to kill themselves?) You're going to buy a boat to live on, by selling your car? Is it a really expensive car you're selling? If you don't want sarcasm you need to narrow down your choices, research this board and ask questions after that. Personally I don't think any 20 year old should be living down here alone, too easy for them to get in trouble and much harder to get out of it with your family so far away.
