Sprint wireless on STX...
Hello...
Can anyone comment on signal-strength/reliability of Sprint wireless on St. Croix's east end? Especially the Grapetree Bay area.
Many thanks.
non-existent on STX East End.
roaming only.
AT&T is an option.
Not sure about Innovative and Choice.
I believe the closest cell tower is on the ridge above the Divi, so coverage around Grapetree bay is bad unless you are on a ridgetop....maybe along the beach near the old Hotel might work as you can see the Divi from there.
The ridge above the Divi is the Villa Madeline condos. No cell towers there.
When i'm out east my Sprint iPhone switches to "Extended Network" which means it's on the AT&T towers. I haven't been charged for roaming (yet) but the signal definitely gets really weak the further east you get. I get nothing at Point Udall, except my phone did switch to what I think must've been a BVI roaming signal once haha. 3G comes and goes, though it's been relatively reliable in Christiansted and, to a lesser extent, mid-island in Kingshill (where I work). Outages are definitely more common than on the mainland, though. Still, I like unlimited data, so Sprint is probably the best option for me.
Once you get East of the Yacht club towards Crammer Park there isn't much if any cell service from AT&T. If you cross over and head down to Jacks and Issacs you can get service on the South Shore.
I don't see any mention of Tmobile, I'm betting it is bad if sprint is, but does anyone know more?
Sorry to be slightly off the main topic of Sprint wireless,
does anyone have Virgin Mobile or know about the coverage down in STX? We looked at the website and it said Virgin has 3G there but who knows what the reality is....
There is no T-Mobile service on St. Croix. ATT is the only real option here for decent coverage. Forget Choice or Innovative.
Thanks rcanuck,
That tells me that it is easiest just to make the change to AT&T before leaving FL.
Of course AT&T maybe the best, but you still need a back up telephone service. AT&T was screwed up for a week on the East end of STX at the beginning of July for a week and it went out again yesterday and is still down or working very poorly with no ETR. Expect 10 - 20 days a year with no reliable AT&T cell service and if we had a hurricane who knows how long it would take them to fix things.
I use a MicroCell and a MagicJack when AT&T isn't fully functional which seems to be more often than it should be, but hey according to the press releases we now have 4G service.
I have AT&T with 4G LTE service on the east end of STX and have no problems.
I must admit that I've never had anything more than a minor disruption issue with ATT over the 9 years I've lived here. However, Innovative land line service was so bad and unreliable with service calls that took months, that I dropped it completely years ago.

I use Virgin Mobile on STX and if you want to see coverage just look at Sprint coverage. Virgin Mobile uses the Sprint network. I've used it for seven years with minor problems (for STX). Virgin Mobile is now owned by Sprint as far as I know.
http://coverage.sprint.com/IMPACT.jsp? It shows no coverage in the Carambola Resort and Point Udall areas. NO 4g and lots of areas have off-network roaming. Check the map for the areas that affect you.
Call it what you will...Sprint or Virgin Mobile. Both suck compared to ATT. Just my opinion.
