Spirit Cancelling All Flights

I had some family members coming to visit for the Holidays. 

They were flying on Spirit and was departing STX on January 8th. Spirit cancelled the flights. 

They were rebooked to depart STX on January 4th. The airline supervisor said there are no more flights coming and going after January 4th for about 6 weeks to STX. They didn’t know why that was. 

Interesting that January 4th is the same date the vaccine mandate goes into effect. 

Could it be that they are expecting airline shortages due to the mandate, and that’s why the flights are cancelled?

 

Has this happened before?

I just tried to book Spirit online for January 8 and there was no problem doing that. This was from STX to FLL only, one way. Some of the fares offered mid to late January seemed remarkably low even for Spirit though.

The vaccine mandate for Federal workers including TSA went into effect today 11/22/2021.

The mandate is postponed for private employers with no established effective date.

I tried as well. Looks like it may be a Dallas issue even though the supervisor said no flights going to St Croix. 

I checked as you did to FLL and I see flights. Flights to Dallas show nothing. 

I work for the federal government. No vaccine mandate issued for us still. Work as normal. 

I thought OSHA had given up on imposing the mandate as the early court decisions have concluded it’s overreached.  This is going to the US Supreme Court unless the administration drops the executive order based mandate.  I personally fine it hard to believe that the mandate is constitutional.  I’m very pro vaccination but equally anti mandate.

That was my understanding. I can understand the vaccine being constitutional if we knew for sure it works for the long run. Too many unknowns of the long-term effects of any of this will be. How many times have you seen those commercials that if you use Johnson and Johnson baby powder and now had cancer you’re part of a lawsuit. Who would’ve thought baby powder would do that back in the day.  I personally am not taking the vaccine because I’ve had Covid at least two times. I will think your body would be better off equipped after dealing with the real thing. I also have never had a flu shot in my entire life and I’ve never had the flu.  The whole concept of people saying the unvaccinated are affecting the vaccinated doesn’t make sense. If we are vaccinated you shouldn’t be able to catch it from anyone.  Then on the other hand you do see healthy people who have died that didn’t get the vaccine and have they gotten it they would probably still be alive today. It is a real shame this is become political. If we had real leadership on both sides of the aisle they would’ve come together jointly and done what was right for all of us.
