Rambling Cats Focus of 4th Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Event
By Source Staff — November 4, 2013
Lucky Paws Foundation (LPF) and the Humane Society of St. Thomas (HSSTT) will again offer a low-cost spay/neuter weekend for community (stray, feral and abandoned) cats managed by caregivers, as well as HSSTT’s shelter animals on Saturday and Sunday.
The 4th SNIP (Spay/Neuter Island Pets) event takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Humane Care Campus (HCC) on Weymouth Rhymer Hwy.
According to Dellia Holodenschi, founder of LPF, “It is our goal to end pet overpopulation in St. Thomas by providing low-cost spay/neuter services to the community animals cared for by so many humane people.
“Education along with an active sterilization program will greatly reduce the unacceptable killing of so many thousands of perfectly adoptable cats and dogs.”
A trained team of licensed U.S. veterinarians and certified veterinary technicians will be joined by dedicated local volunteers on a fully equipped surgical spay/neuter vehicle donated by the Animal Rescue League of Boston. According to HSSTT Board President Joe Aubain, “Over two days, our team will strive to alter approximately 150 community and shelter animals resulting in almost 500 total sterilizations during all four events.”
Appointments must be made no later than Thursday by calling Holodenschi at 513-1854. At the time of admission, a contribution of $25 would be appreciated.
Walk-ins will not be accepted during the event. Cats must be brought in covered pet carriers or traps and otherwise will not be accepted. Also needed are donations of clean used towels and blankets.
This humane event is sponsored by Animal Rescue League of Boston, Aquafina, Ryan Ayers, Bolongo Bay Beach Resort, Broadband VI, Gatorade, HSSTT, Lucky Paws Foundation, STX Animal Welfare Center, VI Daily News, West Indies Corporation, and Andrew Williamson, D.V.M.
