son lookin for honeymoon spot

My son is getting married in late May and is looking for some advice on where to stay for the honeymoon. Does not have to be in USVI. He has been looking online and said yesterday that they all look the same. Obviously that is not the case. He is traveling from Missouri, and has a budget of $6000 in total inclding air etc. I am guessing air at around $1000 for both of them. He wrote me in an instant message:

Cory Faris says:
beach front, water activities, does not have to be all inclusive, but can be, couples only, suite style kitchenette one week stay, looking at st. john, croix lucia, turks

Thanks for any first hand experience you may have. If I had a choice for him, I like him to go to St Croix, as we are migrating there in a few months - and he could report back etc. but where to vacation / honeymoon is not the same as living someplace.

Thanks in advance

Bob

I posted this on the vacation board, and have not had a lot of suggestions - maybe we can get more ideas on this board -

thanks

I live on ST Croix - BUT for a honeymoon vote - I vote St John ! Their beaches can't be beat. And they can ferry to St Thomas to shop or eat, or Tortola to explore, or....

ASEMOVE, if you check out the Vacation Message Board, the other one connected to this website, and search just a little through the posted messages, you'll find one for a really great looking private villa rental that just might be the special get-away need for a honeymoon. I forgot the name of it or I would have posted it here.

I agree with the above post about spending it on St.John, I think it will feel most like a tropical island experience, coming from Missouri.

Just my two cents, but a couple from Missouri who've probaby never been to the Caribbean before will probably have a fantastic time on either STT, STJ or STX.

From STT they can ferry over very quickly to STJ. Suggestions on STT would be Sapphire, Pavilions and Pools and Secret Harbour - all very nice and close to Red Hook for a STJ trip. Good deals can be had if you do your research properly.

STJ you're looking at very big bucks for a main stay, particularly in May - height of season.

I wouldn't recommend all-inclusive period, at least here in the US Virgin Islands.

Better they get a good deal on a simple suite and rent a car to explore and the driving ain't too difficult! So much to offer here on STT and with close proximity to STJ.

I'm gearing my thoughts towards those who haven't visited the Caribbean before and of course will stand corrected!

STX is great - I was a fairly frequent visitor there years ago and although I haven't been there in many years now, I nonetheless have good remembrances of its charm - and it's totally different topography.

ASEMOVE, there be my two cents from an oldtimer here directed towards a honeymoon couple who are new to the Caribbean!

I don't know if anyone has addressed this, but we really don't have any "Couples Only" places like the Sandals Resorts. They might have to deal with some children around.

Thanks all - for some good direction. Cory, who is currently doing his last semester of intern stuff and working as a bartender in his "spare" time does not have the time needed to research all this. All of your help has been very helpful. Basically, I think he figured out that any decision/direction they do will not be a bad move. It will all be a variation of really good stuff. I learned a long time ago that ya gotta give "kids" the info and let em go. Me trying to adcise? Not a good thing. Lessons learned are better learned and more enjoyed when you make the choices internally.

Again - thanks so very much. Soon, I'll able to be in your place and return the favor to someone with some real time personal experience.

Bob

ps I am getting goosebumps - think of Cory - spending so many hours at study and work for the last 7-8 years - and now having a week to just ralax and blow off some steam? Hell, he would have a great time here in Misery (sorry - I meant Missouri) at the local Holiday Inn. i.e. no bad choices in the USVI.
