Enjoy the mainland while you can -- use this time to get totally sick of your favorite restaurants, etc. 🙂

All depends on your point of view. I'd be happy to spend a few day's exploring the Museum of Science and Industry, the Field Museum and the Shedd Aquarium. I also liked staying at the old Blackstone Hotel. I bet it isn't even there anymore!! And the FOOD, don't get me started.

I will miss the Chicago food for sure... but I also do love fresh seafood... so it's trading one for the other. Plus my family can ship me food 🙂 The Museums have gone the tubes here. The only one still worth it is the Art Institute. We used to be member to the Shedd Aquarium, but stopped because the quality of their exhibits have gone down. My reef aquarium at home is more impressive then theirs! 😀

Plus there is nothing to do here. And our summers are only 3 months long! Being somewhere were we can hike, beach, scuba/snokel, and lime is the place for us!

It seems anomalous, but you might be able to get a greater variety of seafood in Chicago than in the Caribbean.

Food variety is more a function of transportation than proximity. Chicago has a distinct advantage in transportation.

I lived in the desert SW for that long. It was time for me as well.

So true... we had better and cheaper seafood in Phoenix, which is, last I checked, in the desert. Of course, if you want to catch your own, that's much more doable here, but if your'e buying, you're better off in the states. There are other foods here that make up for it, though.

I grew up straight across the lake from you, in St. Joseph, MI. I visit Michigan in the summer 😀 I don't miss it there at all. Getting up in the dark, starting my car when I wake up so it is warm when I have to go to work, in the dark, and then not getting home from work until it was dark. I mean, it can be so lovely there in the summer time, but it is so short, not long enough to wipe away the memory of the winter. I would be happy to never see snow for the rest of my life. The winter before I moved to St. John we had 43 straight days without a peek of sunshine. Talk about slit your wrist seasonal depression!!!

Julie - we've been to St. Joe many times! I agree with you... the summers here are great and makes you think.. okay I can do it here... then the 8 months of winter comes with no sun and terrible weather. I do get really bad season depression. Last year was the worst... I think this year will be just as bad, the cold and grey has started early this year. We'll be on St. John the first week of December, we should get together for a drink and you can convince us to move even quicker! 🙂
