Should we buy a gun for protection ???
Hi Guys,
So much good information from this board. I was wondering if we should by a gun for protection? We are still planning to manage property there and will be handling money. Should we have a gun on hand if needed right now we don't own one and if there is no need I would just soon leave it that away. I am getting more excited day by day to be there. Thanks for all the info. Ronna
NOPE!
Oh no, here we go again....
Ya I saw that coming too!! Think I'll just sit back and enjoy this one:)
not very good grammar, but...ABSOLUTELY NOPE! Lizard is spot on with this one.
NO....just require tenants to pay in check or money order. Now days there is no reason why prop management should have cash in their office or person, you just have to train the tenants and make sure they understand it up front.
I doubt the local government will issue a gun permit just because you manage property and handle tenant payments.
That is probably enough to get you a carry permit in the VI.

Charlotte what do you mean with that statement I was just wondering and thought I'd ask.
I believe that all she meant was that this is a potentially contentious topic and could lead into another discussion on crime etc. I don't think any insult was intended.
I vote no also, but I guess you'd have to ask yourself the question of whether you were willing to shoot someone in self-defense. If not, it's probably more dangerous to have the gun than not.
I know people who have gotten gun permits because they carry lots of money for business & I'm not anti-guns but really don't think it's necessary & it could be used against you.
I've been told that if you are not trained, not only in gun safety, but how/when to use one...
Be sure to buy the caliber that would be your favorite to get shot with... 😉
I went from wanting a .22 to NOTHING! Eek!
most every home owner here on stx I know has one ......but no one will admit it ........just another reason to get robbed......if you do choose to get a gun .....don't advertise the fact you have one....getting permits are very easy........check out your local firing range and make an educated and comfortable decision............just my opinion...........
Getting the permits isn't that easy. You need pictures, finger prints, background check, take a class and several trips to the police station. Figure four to eight weeks from start to finish.

Ronna.... I was refering to the "Crime" topic from past post...It seems to crop up more and more these days. Really was just making funny...guess I wasn't...
OK granted I don't live there, but what I have read on this board is great and the crime thing I believe it is anywhere people are there is always going to be some that are bad and some that are good. I a firm believer that I treat people that way I would like to be treated. I probably could not shoot another person, I don't know. I hope that I never have to find out. I just wanted input on the subject and I received that thank you. If someone wants what I have they could have it plain and simple.Life is short I want to enjoy and not live in fear. I am really excited to start an adventure with my husband of 36 years as I see it anywhere he is will be paradise and that is simply the way I have felt anywhere we have lived. So I'm happy to have to have a chance at a different lifestyle a slower pace sounds great to me. So when we get there how do we go about meeting some of you that I have been talking with on this message board. Ronna
Ronna, after you're settled in just post & try to see who's interested in a get-together. Good luck with your move.
