Okay. Here's another question for all of you, and thanks again for your help thus far.

Okay, here goes...When we went to St. Croix for our PMV, we looked around and went to KMart to check out prices. I wasn't looking at all things, just makeup, laundry detergent,(necessities, yes boys, make up is necessary) etc. I noticed the makeup was double the prices here in San Antonio.

What I am wondering now, is, are all of the other things in the store double as well? For example, patio furniture, sheets, bedding, etc... We are moving military so we get free shipping, what should I buy for sure before I get there? Are there other stores that would have bedding, dishes, etc.? Or should I stock up???

I am pretty sure we will have visitors and want to be prepared and decorate the new place (what can I say, maybe I'll relax when I get there), I am not sure whether I should try and get everything now, or wait until we get there....

Thanks again. I owe you all(okay, maybe not ALL of you 🙂 ) a Spurs' Championship T-Shirt and some Texas barbque.....

Depending on your preferences...

Nice (high thread count, 100% cotton) sheets...nice mosquito netting can be picked up at Bed, Bath & Beyond for $59. The exact same thing is "on sale" in St. Thomas for $150.

High-end makeup is tax-free and seems to be same prices as stateside, so I'd get that here (unless there's something new you want that might not have made it here).

I stock up on things like L'Occitane, mascara, and other items that have a relatively short shelf life when I'm stateside (even though they are available here).

No need to bring Tshirts or BBQ (though I do miss it so)- but would you mind bringing Central Market down here? 😉

You're lucky to have someone else footing the bill for shipping. I have heard that STX has a better selection of furniture, etc., so I'll let the STX folks answer the furniture question. A lot of things (in my experience anyway) that were OK in TX would absolutely get ruined/disintegrate here. So maybe the Crucians can help you with some advice on that front.

Best of luck with your move!

If you get to move your belongings through military transport, you might also want to explore the PX here on STX when you arrive. It's the very best place to purchase appliances on the island. I'm not certain what all else they stock, as I don't have military ID to check it out in-person.

Also don't forget the online PX,as they'll ship what you purchase directly to you or put it in a container from Puerto Rico to be picked up at the local PX if it's too large or heavy for shipping through the mail.

If there are any specialty items you use in cooking, you might want to send a case or two with whatever else you ship down. Sometimes it isn't the price that's the issue... it's the sheer lack of what you are shopping for.

LR: Where do you get L'Occitane on island? I was introduced to it in St Martin and thought that I'd have to finagle a trip back! 😉

EE,

There's a place downtown- on Main Street, towards the post office, but on the other side of the street. Next to the Crystal Shoppe that's on the corner there. I want to say it's called Tropicana Perfume Shoppe?

They don't have a full selection- it's just a little "island" of product towards the back of the store. Nor do they have the new stuff (I went in looking for the rose bon bon lip gloss a few months after it was introduced, and they looked at me as if I had asked them to shake their bon bons...sigh).

My dearest +1 is exasperated with me, since I could have my own L'Occitane shop from the house. If there's something in particular you're looking for, PM me- I just might have it (and ol' +1 would be thrilled if I cleaned out some of the tons of unused 'product' I am hoarding).

L'Occitane will also ship to the VI. So will their sister company, O & Co, which makes a most delicious basil olive oil, and some addictive sweet (yes!) olive oil crackers...mmmmmmm.....

But, by all means, finagle a trip to St. Martin!! And take me with you! 😉

Best,

LR
