Wow a shooting during Carnival time?!?!?! Who would've thought.........
Wow a shooting during Carnival time?!?!?! Who would've thought.........
..and I am sure that, like last year, there are no witnesses.
Not so funny for the victims and their families.
Very sad that we have deteriorated into such a crime filled society especially where Carnival used to be such a time for fun.
If the bad guys cant put it aside for a few fun days then it close it down. Spoils it for the good folks but maybe thats how it has to be.
Alana, the facts aren't in. Maybe those 'victims' were involved in something that we don't know about.
My husband and I have a sad joke that the opening night of Carnival announcements are actually the "Opening Lecture." So much of the announcements about behaving and honoring the Carnival Village, not bringing fights to Carnival, etc. Sad that it still happens.
So they deserved to be shot IF they were involved in something we don't know about?
The big problem is the danger posed to innocent bystanders. The people doing the shooting are not known for their marksmanship. Cars sprayed, last year wasn't it an ice cream truck? Kids everywhere, makes me shudder.
So they deserved to be shot IF they were involved in something we don't know about?
As I said, we don't know the facts.
And yes, some people DO deserve to be shot.
As far as rumors go, I hear the one the police shot was on trial in St Kitts and was apparently hiding here. Now to verify that.
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A St. Kitts national was yesterday morning (Apr. 26) shot and killed by a police officer in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas.
According to www.virginislandsdailynews.com, the young man was shot "just outside the Carnival Village, which had officially opened only hours earlier".
The website stated that the police were not, at the time, releasing the name of the dead man or the police officer who did the shooting and St. Thomas-St. John Police Chief Darren Foy was reported as saying, ""We are conducting an internal investigation."
However, a source close to the young man's family gave the name as Clyde Norford of St. Paul's Village who was residing in St. Thomas.
The website stated that police had reported hearing shots fired about 12:15 a.m. yesterday in front of Fort Christian, yards away from the Carnival Children's Village, and minutes later reported a "man down".
It also stated that "dozens of people were within plain sight of the shooting when it occurred, few admitted to seeing anything" and "no one reported having heard any arguing prior to the shooting".
On June 3, 2007 Norford was charged with wounding with intent committed on May 28, 2007 at Cockle Shell Beach on the South East Peninsula.
He was also one of six men arrested and charged for the murder of Gregory Anthony Zakers, whose lifeless body was found in Black Rocks on April 12, 2008.
He was however subsequently released.
Wonder if he was here legally, not that it makes a difference, but if not, that's another crime he may have committed. He must have fled St Kitts to avoid legal action.
I've heard that many other Caribbean islands are more aggressive when it comes to fighting crime. Grenada had rifle toting, camouflage wearing security guards stationed at shopping areas, because there were several robberies supposedly committed by US deportees.
Isn't there a remote island in the Indian Ocean where countries can send their criminals???
Reunion Island... but they wouldn't like everyone's misbehaving deportees any more than we do here. I prefer the prison continent of Antarctica personally.
So, any updates? Any new festive GSWs to report?
