shipping/swimming
I am planning on relocating to St. Croix. I am sure someone has researched the best way to ship car and boxes of clothes etc. I know of Tropical Shipping from Riviera Beach, Fla.--is there another company that might be less expensive? It can be from anywhere in Florida.
Also--which company is best for shipping things over once one lives there--something such as clay.
Is there any place on St. Croix that has a lap pool for swimming.
Thanks.
Who needs a lap pool when you have the ocean. Remember... Tim Duncan became a basketball player when the only work out pool on St Croix was damaged during hurricane Hugo in 1989 and he had to give up competitive swimming. Now he is the best basketball player in the world. Actually there are several pools on St Croix that lend themselves to lap swimming.
Hello Toby,
Depending on your interest in swimming (excercise, athlete...) the Swimming Federation on St. Croix might be an organization of interest to you. Their web site is:

I dropped my vehicle off in Rivieria Beach. Tropical Shipping was excellent, IMHO, but particularily Lee Flemming who set up all the paperwork through Tropical. They may be a little more expensive, but well worth it. They said our SUV would arrive within 3 weeks and it was here in 10 days. Paying extra for Lee to take care of the paperwork was SO worth it - there would have been more hassles on the STX end if we hadn't hired him.
We also used Lee at Managed Freight (who used Tropical to ship). He took care of everything and delivered our car to us. I would definitely recommend him. Another company that I know of that does ship cars and household goods is Crowley. You should be able to search and find info on them. I don't have it currently. They shipped our household goods from Missouri to STT. Everything came in one piece! 😉

In regards to automobile shipping, I just wanted to update everyone that they are no longer accepting vehicles with ANYTHING in them other than a spare tire and a jack, regardless of value. I had been told that I could put items in my car as long as they werent blocking windows and as long as they werent valuable ... however, apparently, this has changed. Which happened to be a bit of a frustration this morning when I drove 3 hours to ship my car and they told me this- esp since I was on my own ..... BUT, I was able to work it all out.
I also recommend using Lee with managed freight... he really takes care of everything for you and is always fairly easy to get a hold of. I'm shipping with Crowley out of NJ, and so far they have been really helpful, so I'll let you all know how that goes.
