Hi

Curious what experiences you've had with moving companies and cost associated with moving your things down there. We are moving from the San Francisco area. Anyone ship your belongings from here? Cost? Damage once arrived? Any tips?

Thanks

Hanging onto material things can be expensive. Especially if you move around alot or even only once, long distance.

With that in mind, we are in the process of dumping virtually everything we currently own.
Family heirloom stuff is going to other family members.
We will yard sale the other stuff which is really just "stuff" that would be really dumb to pay shipping.
We have reached the point in life where we ask ourselves why do we keep this junk?

And if you ship your stuff all the way to the islands, are you ready to pay to ship it back if you change your plans in a few months or years?

If you're thinking of shipping furniture, think twice. Lots of stuff just doesn't "go" down here. Unless you're buying right away, you'll probably be renting furnished or semi-furnished plus termites just love wood unless it's mahogany. I moved with 2 suitcases & had a few personal things mailed to me and when I did buy, there sure wasn't anything from my previous life which would have worked here except for some kitchen stuff.
