US Postal Service first. Fed Ex next then UPS - UPS considers us an international destination and charges the same.

Pamela is right, but depending on the type of package or the shipper you might want to insert VI Cargo between USPS and FedEx. If the shipper will not ship USPS, then the best alternative is to have them send the item to VICargo via the most economical means of their choice and you pay for the shipping and clearance from there. It's easy, relatively quick, and relatively cheap.

What are you shipping? Envelope? Crate?

I would try USPS first, VI Cargo second, and use FedEx, UPS and DHL for emergencies only, like if you're in a hurry or you have no other choice of carriers. They're so expensive.

VI Cargo is a freight fowarder. You ship your package to them in Miami (Medley, actually), and they put it on a boat to STX.

Any pkg that reaches VI Cargo by noon on Wednesday will arrive the following Tuesday. They'll call you when it's ready after customs clearance...usually between Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning. A small pkg like a priority 3# box, as an example, typically will cost ~$10.50

Carib Trans is another one. We use them a LOT at my work and they clear customs over the weekend and your package is ready Monday. Usually 3-4 days quicker than VI Cargo

Where do you pick up your Carib Trans shipments on STX? Are the prices similar to VI Cargo?

Bob, at the airport. I think they're cheaper. I know that we've started using them more for dry goods and have switched from VI Cargo

The best part about CaribTrans is that they will quote the cost of shipping and stick to it. VI Cargo has told us how much something will cost and then more than doubled it when the product showed up. They have done that to us more than once.

Just so I'm not confused is the airport pickup place for CaribTrans the same as a business known as RushIt? I used the latter ONCE and while they had great customer service I found out the hard way that there's a minimum charge for even the smallest item such that a small 1-quart sized container I received cost me something like $60! I don't know if RushIt and CaribTrans are the same but based on pricing comparison to VI Cargo I'd only use RushIt for some VERY large in size (like king sized mattress or bigger.)

I've have to pick up things at Rush It (at their office location) when they are sent from Europe by the Euro equivalent to Fedex/UPS. Never had to pay a fee, but probably because the postage was paid on the other end by the shipper. I thought they were just a forwarding/courier service, not an all out shipping company...but perhaps they do both...
