I’m looking for some help in shipping my Jeep Wrangler to STT. Any suggestions? Is it worth shipping 2002 Apex all leather 4X4 edition) or should I buy a new auto once I get there?

Thanks all.
Best wishes...
Norm

It will cost you $2,200 - $2,400 to ship and put the Wrangler on the road in the VI.

The new 2007 Wranglers are much diffrent (improved?) than the older Wranglers. Dealers aren't that well stocked with 2007 Wranglers on STX so if you want a 2007 it might takw some time (months).

Plenty of used Wranglers available as it is a very popular and practical car in the VI.

Is it paid off? If its not you better check with your fiance company to see if they will let you bring it down. I personnally wouldnt bring a car down. Better to buy an island beater and not worry about how the island will destroy it.

No, the Jeep is not paid off, and I really never even thought about the finance company not wanting the vehicle off the mainland. That's way I visit this board...lots of info and a great place to learn.. How much do "island beaters" cost?

$1,500 to $5,000 for something that is going to run without constantly giving you trouble.

Greetings Thunderstorm

If you do ship your Jeep, I recently had an excellent experience with SeaStar. They ship out of the Jacksonville, FL port. My truck arrived in STT without so much as a scratch on it. The shipping charges were just under $1,100.

Best of luck!

Norm, I say this with the best intentions. If you didnt know about the financing bit and shipping your car I would suggest you have not been researching or reading this board enough for someone who is going to move here. This board is a invaluable source of information. You will learn more then you can imagine about the islands if you just read the board and go through all the old posts. If your serious about this move setting aside 30 minutes a day to read the old posts is a good idea to get an idea of life here and it ups and downs. Good luck

Betty,
You could not be more correct in your assessment…research, research, and research some more. The problem there is that there are SOOOOO many lose ends of sorts right now that some things slip through the cracks. What may seem like a “do a search”, common sense question to some, if for others a blip on the radar that missed the mark. That is way I have been trying to read all I can—on this board and others—to educate myself. Things slip through the cracks :<. As mentioned in previous posts, the search functions is an invaluable tool, but please try to appreciate that this is a major life decision and some times a reconfirmation of information is invaluable.
I can only hope you will way in with prudent advice…you seem very knowledgeable—as well as “hit the search button.” I need folks like you to make this as smooth of a transition as possible.
Best regards (and a SINCERE thank you),
Norman

I agree things will slip through the cracks but if you're coming her you're going to learn to do without alot of things so don't over plan. I would bring with you as little as you need. Keep the memories and loose the stuff. Put your stuff in storage for a year if you can afford it, especially if you're not planning a pmv. 6 months to a year...maybe even 2 years.... is about when the honeymoon starts to wear off hear...shorter for some longer for others...and you start to really notice the difficulties of living here. And thats when you really decided if you're going to make it here. Some do many don't, but it will be an adventure either way.

The search feature is nice but if I were you I would start reading all the posts (from the new ones to when it started). That way you will come across information that you wouldn't think of asking.

Good Luck
