Shipping car and registration - lesson learned
We shipped our car down with Blue Ocean and had Beep Business manage the registration on St. Thomas. We live on our boat, just arrived, and have 60 days to register our vessel. You MUST have a physical address on St. Thomas to register your car; mail service will not work. They also want evidence of the physical address.
Long story short, we had to register our vessel and get an anchoring permit before DMV would allow Beep to register our car.
Lesson learned: You MUST have a physical address to register your car.
Note: DPNR and DMV love notarized documents. If you do not have a physical address yet, you're bunking with a friend, or otherwise do not evidence of your physical address, DMV will accept a notarized letter signed by you and one other as an affidavit of physical address; this can be a very simple document listing the address.
Thanks for the folks on vimovingcenter.com that helped us with shipping our car and tire selection.
Cheers, RickG
One thing you'll find in the VI is that there are always workarounds for every road block (or red tape) the government puts up.
