Shipping bargains to the USVI
I was wondering if anyone is aware of any shipping bargains or loopholes one can take advantage of living in the USVI. For instance, I have an LL Bean credit card, and supposedly this entitles you to free shipping anywhere in the US. I inquired at the LL Bean store recently whether this includes the USVI, and they believe that it does. This means you could get a hammock, bike, kayak, or other large item shipped for free all the way to the VI. Sounds too good to be true, we will see.
Does anyone know of other good deals like this, particularly for purchasing electronics? I am frustrated by the lack of options we have on STT for buying TVs, home theaters, etc.
Sorry mate. Last time I tried to order electronics on-line I got a resounding NO, partly because of the size (I was deparately trying to convince Best Buy to mail me a 35" tv) and partly b/c they think the USVI is some foreign land with no Postal tracking system. Given the lack of discretion with employees at the big cos., you could try a smaller business...maybe?
either way, carib, keep us updated with what you find out...
especially for those of us on st john, where we dont even have the luxuries of kmart and such things... 😉
The one that frustrates me is Amazon.com and all their partner sites. Of course you can order books and media from Amazon no problem, there isn't even a surcharge. But some of the partner sites charge a bit extra, and others don't ship to the VI at all. Each one is different and you usually have to go through the 12 payment steps before you find out.
p.s. They should build a Best Buy next to the Home Depot! Even a smaller than normal store with slightly higher prices would be great. Call it "Better Buy". Hey, we're all about compromise in the islands, right? 🙂
Try BrandsMart USA they are located in the Miami area much cheaper than Best Buy
I bought a Dell and had it re-routed from the states to here.
If you go used electronics, have you ever used ebay?
I am just horrified at the selection of electronics down here myself so I ship for what I want.
ebay is actually a really good idea. I've bought a lot of things on there but none since moving to the VI. That could potentially be a good way to work around the shipping costs, as well as a way to get good deals. I guess one should probably email the seller first though to make sure they're willing to ship to the VI.
well, if it says shipping to the US in their description, it must be included. If it says only continental US, then they are covered. Usually they have a set price for shipping.
