Shippers Prices?!
Good Morning All,
I have decided to ship my vehicle down to STT in October. I have been able to get quotes from 2 companies; Crowley and Tropical. Crowley said it would be about $2000 to ship from the states to STT and Tropical said about $1700. Does this seem high to anyone? I have a mid-size 2 door toyota tacoma truck, not bigger than many SUV's one sees on the road today, I guess I thought that it would be around $1000 or so. Does any one have any suggestions for other shippers? I have been unable to contact SeaStar by phone and that was the only other shipper I found. Does anyone think that I would be able to sell my truck when I leave to make up the difference of what I paid to get it there?
Thanks for reading!

Don't forget the "extras" involved as well. We shipped 2 vehicles down in 2005, a Jeep Liberty and a Toyota Tacoma. I can't find the exact cost of the Tacoma but here is our breakdown of the shipping fees for the Liberty.
West Palm Beach to STT $1045.00 (obviously more now)
Personal Use Tax (value of vehicle x 4%) $780.00 (no longer collected) ???????
Road Tax (weight of vehicle x .16) $528.00
Managed Freight processing fee $330.00
DMV licensing and registration fee $110.00
GR Tax $69.00
Total cost $2862.00
Hope this helps
Pia
sunflower,
Your post of Aug 27,2007 requested price of shipping, I advised you about the approx price of $2000.00 to ship. Some poster's with good intentions gave you prices what they paid in the past. Shipper 's quote prices on current costs, fuel, labor and season. I gave you that approx price because that what I was quoted recently. As far as selling your truck to recoup the cost is anyone's guess. To Recoup your cost you would have to get at least $3000.00 and you would have no truck when you return to the states in 8 months.
Well, as Pia stated there are other costs involved. I have an 05 Honda CRV that I just shipped last week and picked up on Tuesday. I shipped with Crowley out of Port Everglades and paid $1049. I did Customs myself in Port Everglades which saved me $50. That was easy. The only problem was getting from Crowley to Customs for them to stamp my papers and then to the rental car place but that was easily solved. Thanks to one of Crowley's regular customers.
On island I paid a good bit more. I paid $552 for Road Tax. $749 for duty since my truck is foreign made. I don't remember how much it cost to register and it cost me just under $1400 for full coverage for a year. So all together it has cost me about $4000 to drive my vehicle here.
