Hey all!

It has been a while since I've been able to wrtie on this message board, and I would have to admit that I did miss it! It's a great board! Anyways, I ordered the Settler's Handbook as suggested by several of you paradise residents and had a quick question.

In the package, I also had sent 3 publications of newspapers distributed throughout the USVIs. In the real estate classifieds, there seemed to be many decent 2 and 3 bedroom houses for lease at or around $1500 and less. Considering that I want to move my family to STT; are these prices for STT or probably STX. We have tried to call a few numbers listed, but just get answering machines. Could anyone help out?

Thank you,

Josh B

Oh,

and another quick question.....

Are window units (AC) more prevalent then centrai air .........how much is a typical utility bill for a house with under 1200 sq ft. considering the temp would be kept at or higher than 72.

Hello Josh,

If you are seeing these classifieds in the Daily News or Island Trader they are likely St. Thomas and/or St. John. If in the Avis then St. Croix. If you tell us which Neighborhood the apartment you are looking it is in then we could do a better job of pinpointing the island.

Josh,

Our house is about 2400 sq. ft but used to be a duplex, so we actually have two electric meters that each cover half of the house. We haven't unpacked fully in either side of the house yet as we're waiting to do renovations, so we're not running a whole lot of electricity eaters beyond fans (ceiling and floor), a TV/cable/dvd set up, a few lamps, the bathroom light, the kitchen light, the fridge, twol computers/monitors/printers, and a stand alone freezer. For our first month, one WAPA bill ran $87 and the other came in at $97.

Having lived in a condo and not paid individual utility bills for a few years, this hit me with a bit of sticker shock. Am a little scared to see what happens when we start using a washer and dryer, have guests down, or (god forbid) fire up our hotplates used to make candles for a home business. I can't conceive of a situation in which I could afford to power up either of the two wall mounted AC units that are installed here.

I've always tried to conserve energy, and I can now say that WAPA has done it's own little part to make sure I keep on it.

Hope that helps without being scary...

HC
