First, I want to say thank you to all of the people who have been answering Shevon and I's many questions, you have been a huge help to our cause. To remind you, Shevon and I plan to move to the island on October 18th. She had asked about our rental situation and whether or not we should sign a year lease. The thing is, this place seems to be the nicest and the cheapest we have found so far. The house is located in Secret Harbor and it belongs to someone in the States. He is looking to rent the maids quarters to Shevon and I for 750 a month. His stipulation is that we give the rest of the house a walk through about 2 times a week to ensure that there are nor problems. The realitor has insisted that for the price there is no nicer place available, and that the house is in a safe area. We will be hopefully working at Molly's and we don't have a car. Any advice?

Phil,
It sounds like a pretty good deal HOWEVER make sure what you are required to do in the event of a hurricane. Is the Realtor going to have the house boarded up, take care of the outside patio furniture, etc. If you are being taxed with caretaking then the $750 might be a bit stiff. Oh, and get a car .... Molly's is too far to be walking at night.
Pamela.

Phil,

Not a longtime resident in that area but we did spend tikme at the resort at Secret Harbor and found it to be a nice, quiet area. The biggest problem we had was stray dogs. Never had any safety concerns when traveling in and out of that area at night, nor did we even see many folks out at night (that doesn't mean that we ever stopped applying common saftey sense to what we did). It's also close to fantastic snorkeling, a real plus in my book. Oh, and from what I pick up from the boards here, the best grocery store on the island (Food Center) in also near by. I second Pam -- get a car. It is quite hilly back in that area, and both Red Hook and the Food Center are too far to walk.
