I don't know anything about the prices or other financial considerations, but as far as location and general feel of these two places, they couldn't be more different. Which did you prefer?

Schooner bay if you want to walk to town for dinner or shopping, also to be closer to everything. Sunny isle will only be 10 to 15 minutes away and F'sted about 20 to 30 minutes. Since your in town you may have to be more cautious and careful with your safety when walking around.

The reef has a golf course, Lori Deli & Dugans Reef restaurant (over priced) and a great beach. But you are about 15 to 20 minutes to c'sted and everything else is much further. On the bright side its a pretty tight community (not much out there at night) and safety's not a big issue.

In addition to the golf course, driving range and beach at the Reef you also have:

A pool with a fantastic buck Island views

tennis courts

On site RO plant

convenient to the STX Yacht Club and the Divi Casino

Other east end restaurants and bars nearby include:

South Shore Cafe

Galleon

Deep End Bar

Chicken Charlies

Cheeseburgers

Kaleidoscope

And there is a new place under construction in Solitude that is rumored to be a new or additional location for Kendricks.

For beaches besides the Reef's you have:

Crammer's Park

Grape tree

Isaac's

Welcome to STX.

It winds up being a personal decision as to which situation suits your needs better. One is convenient to town and services while the other is remote and more private. The Reef usually has a lot more stairs to climb, so if mobility is an issue or likely to be one in future years, that's something to take into consideration when choosing a specific unit at either complex. HOA fees as posted on current listings are higher at The Reef. Neither complex allows pets. If you will want to rent out your condo at some point in the future, ones close to town are often easier to rent. If you have children, you will have a much longer drive to get them to school if you opt for The Reef.

They are both popular complexes with the people who live in them. Your personal situation and needs are the key to whether one would be better suited for you than the other.
