one of the owner/managers is usually there during the day I've noticed, but they're throwing in working like the rest of them so you may not notice which one it is... I would think they'll be announcing something before long. They're really refitting the entire place, top to bottom, new parking pavement, the works. I'll have to check that out just to see how it all stacks up. 8)

These are the same people as Plaza Extra East. They're shooting for August!

I guess that will put the pressure on the new Food Fair. They probably thought that after SB closed, they would have a monopoly on East Enders groceries. Oh well, bad planning.

It'll put alot of pressure on Food Town also, they'll be a price and availability war which is good for us all. I heard it was Waheed from Plaza.

I don't think they care. The Plaza Extra folks are cousins of the Food Town/Food Fair people. I often see them chatting and smoking out front of Food Fair in the evenings.

while i tend to agree that their principle is that you should never under price the competitor, i think the market conditions will force them to reconsider. the hardest months for smaller stores like food town are the summer months and now seeing that this new store may open in august, in the heat of the summer -- food town may have to compete.

With the bypass in, it makes much more sense to just go to Plaza East or Cost U More.

I believe the new store will be positioned as upmarket/gourmet much like Schooner Bay Market was originally under Thia's ownership. That strategy worked very well for her. Subsequent owners tried to compete with the big guys but failed miserably. The last owner's attempt to turn it into some sort of kitchenware and expired packaged foods outlet failed too.

I personally don't care what strategy they pursue as long as the food is fresh, the store is well stocked and they continue to make great sandwiches. I'm sure the major families who control our grocery stores have the market divided up fairly and have sorted it all out amongst themselves.
