Say what
The message board has lost it's collective mind. I am giggling at the people who are still asking relocation questions. Who would want to move to the USVI after reading our posts of the last week. I am afraid to come back home. 😮 Like sands though an hour glass. These are the days of our lives.
Hey Tam --
People want to move to the VI because as you well know, we are one big chain of peace and love! 😀
I've never seen a soap opera, but the reference in your post reminded me that in the sixties my babysitter used to make me nap while she watched "Another World," and that seems to me another apt soap description of life in these islands. Thanks for the trip don't memory lane (though at this point in my life it feels more like a memory traffic circle.)
Aren't you glad you own a home and business in the states............keep on giggling.
No I am not happy I own a home in the states. Been trying to sell the damn thing for 4 years.
I wish I could have my business on island but USPS, UPS, too many holidays for employees on island, and the huge number of containers it would take to ship everything to the island make that impossible.
Giggling and laughing is something I try to do everyday. Got to find some humor.
dntw8up, I haven't seen a soap opera since I was a child and would sneak to watch Dark Shadows but the Days of our lives is what my babysitter use to watch.
Isn't anyone else finding it humorous that people looking to relocate here are posting asking about how safe is it here. I guess they are not bothering to read any of the other posts that are dominating the message board right now. If it were me and I found this forum I would run in the other direction. It sounds like we live in a war zone.

Yes, lately this board has been dominated by very negative posts. However, I still contribute, because I consider it the most helpful and accurate online forum about relocation to the Virgin Islands. Far too many people head for the islands with an unrealistic mindset. This forum, while occasionally being brutally truthful, still paints a well rounded picture of true life on the islands. We are all upset by the senseless crimes that we read about here every day. However, we usually are not affected by them.
When violent crime moves out of the projects, we all start to look over our shoulders. That is what is happening today.
The people who plan to move here deserve honest answers to their questions, even if they are not the ones they want to hear.
I still would not want to live anywhere else. the news of late has shocked and saddened us and hopefully has "awoken the sleeping giant"...maybe making us more careful, aware, and not as likely to take it anymore. The crime is bad and we are all trying to cope with that. But, for me, a bad day in Paradise is a good day anywhere else 🙂
Well......from an outsider's perspective..... I've read the posts. I realize the murder rate is something like 5 times the national average.........but that is a little skewed. Baltimore...Detroit...DC....ALL...equal your murder rate (per 100,000 residents). I live in DC.....and I've never had a problem. BUT....I also don't go into areas known for violence especially at night. I read the story about Peter Des Jardins....and it's pretty tragic....but it sounds like something that brazen was an isolated incident. I could tell you some stories of people being butchered in broad daylight...in DC.....and yet.....I've never had a problem. i obviously can't give nor would I try.......the perspective of someone living in the VI....but the view from where I stand......is.........at least if I get shot.....I'll have the view of the beach as I go down. 🙂 Hope to see you around town.....I'll be the one wearing the kevlar underwear! 😮
Freeflyva thanks for that viewpoint.
I went and looked and you are correct. Some areas of the continent are every bit as rough - and I don't go to those places except on business and generally during the day time. It's easy to get confused in a flood of emotion. Being from a place where we leave the keys in the car it can be a little worrisome but my fiancee from Cincinnati simply said you have to pay attention. That does NOT mean the situation is tolerable - it is NOT!
