I'am moving to St. Croix in the near future and was wondering;
Does anyone have or know of anyone with satellite radio on island? Namely "Sirius"
I understand boat people can pick it up in the caribbean and, Sirius states it can reach out to two hundred miles off the U.S. border.
Maybe I can pick it up if the wind is blowing just right. he,he. (that would be the cosmic winds)
Thanks for any reply.

ironman: The USVI is more than 200 miles from the mainland coast. We are at about 18 degrees north latitude, which seems to be a problem with satellites that are aimed at North America. Is it really that important that you have this entertainment system? Could you live with plain ole AM/FM?

Hi East Ender,
I've been reading these threads for some time now. Have lived in the caribbean off and on for over 30 years. I know where St.Croix is. I believe you misunderstood my inquiry. I simply wanted to know if it was available on island.
Yes I can live with plain ole AM/FM. It's the commercials and DJ's who are in love with their oun voices I could live without. I also have a CD. player in house and car.
Thanks for the reply.

I was just on St. John last week and I tried to get a signal on the XM radio that I brought down with me. I tried every angle and direction I could with no luck. I sent XM an email when I got home and here is their response:

XM is only licensed to provide service to the US (All states except Alaska and Hawaii), its territories and adjacent waters. Outside of these areas XM is very careful to not exceed the signal strength defined by international regulations. At some locations outside the defined service area, however, even if XM is within the transmission limits, the signal level is still strong enough for you to get service. In general, it is not easy to answer coverage questions for locations outside of the US since XM has not designed the system to work and has not tested outside the US. Currently, we provide service to the continental United States only.

I know you were asking about Sirius but hopefully this info helps.

Sirius garranties signal strenght to 200 miles off shore. Ergo my comment on "cosmic winds" I was hoping satellite positioning would overlap target area and cover usvi.

Thanks for the input vislandbound. This is the answer I was looking for.

Ironman: I feel you on the benefits of satellite radio. To a music lover of all various genres, commercials and talking just ruins the vide of a good music session.
Peace,
Elise

Elise: Thanx for the input. I don't care to listen to the same music all the time. Satellite, with 125 stations, of which, 65 are commercial free music is ideal for me.
