Good Afternoon,

Another question concerning the car thing...how bad is the salt air on cars? We have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee and a 2002 Pathfinder....my vote is to ship the Pathfinder, but Dawn is concerned with corrosion and how much depreciation that would cause on the car. Do you think we are going to be ok with just one car to start out with?

Thank you.

Chad and Dawn,

The salt and sun does do its work on cars... but its not an immediate thing.

In my experience... Red cars and white cars seem to get dull (as I have notice, maybe I should have waxed them more...) The red paint gets a dull orange -red color. white car just gets dull.

As for rusting... if the paint gets strached, chipped, dented... then sand away the spot a bit and touch it up with some paint... if its small you can do it yourself and if its big have a body shop do it for you. I learned how to do it myself because I seemed to attrack straches and it would have added up. If you leave the metal exposed it will fall victim to rusting.

Rinse off the car often, wash it, rinse underneath the car, keep the parts well oiled... I spray wd40 on the hindges of the doors, trunk and hood once in a while, use a windshield visor, try to park in the shade... the sun really does a number on the dash in some cars... but no more so then parking in the bright sun in say Florida or any sunny place... don't park under coconut trees that have brown coconuts in it on windy or rainy days you might end up with a cracked windshield... keep your engine happy with water and oil and clean....

I would say sell it here if you move back to the states... you might get more here for it then you would in the states because in general used cars sell for more here.

C & D: The air is everywhere, wreaking havoc with your favorite computer and DVD player...rusting all the metal parts on your fridge...making your salt shaker inoperable (unless you put rice in it)... making the life of a 5 year car battery around one year... and if you live on the moist north side, creating mildew on everything you own!!!! Welcome to the tropics!
