Run down or damaged houses

Ok-I am just looking for a general answer, do not worry about going into too much detail. As a thought, after we have lived on the island, perhaps a year or so, we had thought about buying a house that needs a lot of work. Either damaged by weather, or just old and run down. Are there opportunities to do this? Or just cast my idea away and buy or build. Just a quickie question, thanks again.

Sure there are fixer upper houses. Many were snatched up, they were hurricane damaged houses.... from back in 95... but some still exisit. When you get here just look around, get the real estate mag and browse through it from time to time..

On STX I see a lot of houses where construction had been begun, but something happened and there they sit with no roof and a for sale sign out front. (I can think of 3 without really trying.) I guess they were started by dot com millionaires or something. Anyway, that is another option if you have the resources and skills to finish some of these shells of homes.

Thanks a lot for the info, I would be looking for exactly the above mentioned. This way I can put in exactly what I want and if I screw up or it looks funny, it is only me to blame, hehe. Thanks again for the info.
