No. If your cat licked a bufo it would be dead by now. Your cat's catching lizards and hasn't learned NOT to eat the heads which are toxic and cause distortion of the pupils. You can always try sitting down your cat and explaining it but unfortunately that rarely works. You may just have to get used to seeing your furball looking demented ...

We have a cat that kills cane toads. No idea how she does it, but she kills them and piles them up in the garden.

I'd be very surprised if these are cane toads which are highly toxic. Cats in particular stay away from them as their skin exudes a foul-tasting and smelling toxin which is a big repellant. Here's a link to an article in the Daily News from a couple of years ago:

I'm a fisheries and herpetology biologist, OT. I know Cane Toads.

Not all cats are as reactive to their venom. Dogs are much more sensitive. Some cats just work around it. Our cat doesn't try to eat them, she just kills them and piles them up because she is full of vitriol herself. 😉

ETA: This is a great resource for anyone wanting to identify local reptiles and amphibians in the VI: http://www.caribherp.org

They even tell you which species are introduced and which are considered "native."

You know, every once in awhile, it's a good idea to read the rules for the board including:

Follow basic etiquette for written communication: DON'T USE ALL CAPS (its hard to read and is the equivalent to shouting), don't use an excessive amount of abbreviations and do use punctuation. Welcome new members. In response to a question, provide an answer; do not respond solely with instructions to use the search feature. Do not correct other participants' spelling or grammar. Keep sarcastic comments to a minimum. No critical comments about other board members. Limit the use of 'bump posts', members will assume its something new to read only to find out its not. Try to respond to and ask questions on the board, this insures that all participants benefit from the information being shared. When comments are of a one to one nature or private, use private messaging or email. One last tip, if you post a question or comment come back to check the answers and acknowledge that other board members have taken the time to respond.

Personally, I started this thread to find out about rumors on restaurants. I'm not sure how cane toads and snarky replies are related.

Why did Salude close?

Sean said:

"Thanks to everyone who has supported Salud Bistro the past year. We couldn't come this far without you in this economy. Thanks to all employees for your professionalism that kept our customers coming back for more. We will now take a breather to rest relax and rejuvenate and come back stronger with better food and wines. Now its time to party like rockstars. Come join us!!!"

Before they closed. And then the announcement was made to re-open. I think (my opinion) is that it's a combination of the economy and just kinda being worn out.

Senor Frogs has been in the Bambooz spot for over a month or so. I hear they should have their signage up soon. They seem to be waiting until their signs and decor changes are completed before making a big announcement.

Off the Grid was indeed open and busy the other day... smelled good.

Lets keep this thread going for restaurant news/rumors. Discussion on frogs seems to have started from some sarcasm, that said if folks are interested in talking about creepy crawlies there is another good site at http://www.smilinglizard.com, but do start another thread for that topic.

EE - thanks for posting the reminder regarding message board etiquette.

As of yesterday, Sean is still planning on opening Salud: he is just not sure of the date. That is straight from something he posted on his facebok page yesterday.

So why the radio announcement that they're closed? Unless that was just an announcement that they're closed for season but will re-open? :S

A good friend of mine in the restaurant biz says this is why he doesn't close for season. People get confused and think you're closed permanently and rumors spread.

Thirteen is back open and busy as ever.

Off the Grid BBQ is the best freaking BBQ EVER - and I'm from TX. Yesterday they did a whole pig, smoked. The single best lunch I've ever had. Better than LUAU pig in Hawaii. Unreal!!! If you live on STT you MUST go see Greg at Off the Grid - it's at the top of Sapphire.

We are picking up in business to with more tours this week than last 2 months.

Have. A great busy season everyone! Make some money!!

They closed for vacation. Most restaurants do at some point around this time of the year. Good for your friend who is able to stay open. Many restaurants are so slow right now that they cannot afford to pay staff, keep inventory and stay open. It's basically like throwing money down the drain.

Given that this has been going on for years and years, perhaps people should stop making assumptions and spreading rumors until they know for sure what is going on? It's not doing any businesses any favors. Gossiping is like a competitve sport down here, one that no one wins.

It is a shame their closure was announced on the morning show on the radio. I agree, rumors sink more ships than they float!

I think Epernay might be reopening soon. Saw where someone was looking for staff for new Frenchtown Bistro ( new being key word ). Looney Bien I think will take longer to open back up. That spot seems to be cursed in away as no one seems to be able to keep something in business in that spot......

Looney Bien isn't reopening. There's a new restaurant opening at Yacht Haven Grande on STT named Fresh Bistro. Will be where Wikked was.
