rumor American Eagle leaving SJU in 2013
As if things aren't bad enough, one of the PR newspapers is reporting that AE will be totally discontinuing operations in San Juan by March 2013. I'm hoping this is just bankruptcy negotiation...but it looks like it might be for real.
Ick! There would still be flts from STX and STT through MIA though on AA? Would they potentialy decrease the number of flts but use AA metal instead of AE metal? Any speculations?
heard AE is leaving STX in June!
Chanel--AE has only done SJU-STX or SJU-STT routes. This shouldn't impact the AA flights to Miami. Perhaps AA will add a 3rd daily flight from STX-MIA since it will be difficult to connect through SJU on AA now. Or maybe JetBlue will add flights from STX-SJU. One can hope!
I'm sure too that Cape Air and Seaborne will be happy to add more flights if necessary to take up the slack!
I won't enjoy the hassles involved with American Eagle pulling out of here, but.......The airline itself will not be missed. One of the worst airline experiences ever over many, many years. In addition, I can't think of a more uncomfortable, hot, crowded aircraft than their ATR's.
Well if they leave I wonder if the competition's fares will stay low. I see myself popping back over here about every 6 weeks or so for various things. I'll miss AA because I have status so my bags are checked for free.
Good bloody riddance- now some of our local carriers will sep up to the plate I am willing to bet- but only distraction- availability and price of jet fuel.
AE was probably the worst airline I have ever utilized- one time a 12 hour delay in Curacao, another time a 5 hour delay and then cancellation in SJU, the "wieght listings" the exorbitant rates- no, I won't miss them and neither will my family...
My favorite AE story: one time boss- took their overbooking deal- waited until the price went to hotel room, 200 cash and two free flights- got the first two ok- could never get the second two because of blackout periods- advance notice, whole bunch of bull....He never flew them again- used to be a very frequent traveller- as I am....Good riddance- God Save Local Airlines!
Flew them this past January. First time since the 90's. I only used AE because AA routed me through SJU otherwise I would have taken the jet all the way to MIA.
If I go to SJU I usually take Seaborn
[American Eagle] was probably the worst airline I have ever utilized
You may be right! The 2012 Airline Quality Ratings (AQR) report just gave American Eagle the worst score among regional US carriers. Or to put it into sensational headline-speak, they are the "meanest" regional US carrier.

"The methodology factors in four common complaint areas: on-time arrivals, involuntary denied boardings (commonly referred to as "getting bumped" ), mishandled baggage, and customer satisfaction."

I had my first AA Eagle experience earlier this week. EVerything was fine except for the blonde checkin lady at STT. She was so incredibly rude and disrespectful. Besides that she told every single person that walked up that AE was firing their staff in STT and hiring minimum wage agents to check in the planes that will go to the main land. All I was thinking was they could not be worse then you. As a customer service agent she should not take her anger against AA out on pax.
I worked CS for the airline and various other companies and I truly have the customer is always right attitude. I was CS is the way it used to be.
