Rugby and internet?
My husband and I (early 60s) are considering relocating to St. Croix. I'm a graphic artist and web designer and my husband is a Rugby fanatic. Am I likely to find work and is Rugby broadcast on TV?
If you network, you can find freelance work here as a graphic artist and web designer. Better yet, hang onto your existing clients and work remotely for them from the VI.
The only thing I know about rugby is that it's a game for gentlemen with odd-shaped balls.
There is quite a Rugby team participation in the BVI -- is it broadcast? IDK -- maybe on satellite channels from the UK??
They used to have pick up Rugby games at UVI field in STT.
That won't do you any good if you are in STX but someone should know about STX games.
It was pretty popular here especially with relocated Brits.
As for jobs for a 60 yr. old, guess it depends on your level of expertise and the demand in your field.
You may find yourself having to create your own business.
You can check the job listings on Craig's list to get an idea of what type of help local businesses are looking for.
Good Luck to you.
Good info - thanks. Laughed out loud at the "game for gentlemen with odd-shaped balls"! My husband is a Brit raised in New Zealand - a huge fan of the All Blacks. Wouldn't call them gentlemen as you're watching the Hucka!
Keep your stateside clients and pick up a few local. I tried to get in with a couple design houses here and they wouldn't hire a newly relocated person. Now I've bulked back up my client list from all over the globe really and do graphic/web from home and only in the slow season. In busy season I do scuba and snorkel tours... what I really want to do lol.
If you are looking to get in with a design company and get paid like you would back in the states.... no.. that doesn't exist here.
Sorry if that came of harsh lol.
