I looked through some of the old posts so I believe I know the answer, but want to make sure. Is the VI an open shop/right to work place?

I believe the only 'right to work' territory is Guam.

I've not heard of any closed shops in the VI. Anyone?

A closed shop is one in which a job applicant must be a union member in order to be employed. The Taft-Hartley Act permits states to ban closed shops.

The government is closed shop. Everyone is in a union there!

aeneas: I am sorry if you got the impression that unions were not big here. They are extremely big.

Here is an article about unemployment: http://www.virginislandsdailynews.com/index.pl/article_home?id=17644699:

Most of those 28% the government doesn't want to lay off are union members.

Thanks East Ender,
I meant it seems unions aren't so big in private sector. I will not join a union and from what I've read I'm not eligible for a government job of any kind. Regular work is open shop isn't it?
