I've checked every listing I can find online and in the Settler's Handbook, and I cannot for the life of me find a Rheumatologist listed anywhere in the USVI - the nearest one is in Puerto Rico. What...doesn't anybody down there suffer from arthritis???? My wife and I are considering a move to St. Croix but we both have arthritis, and hers is a very aggresive case, unfortunately. Any input?

i have moderate osteoarthritis in my knees and no, there are no Rheumatologists in the USVI.

I'm visiting my dad 3-4 times a year and seeing my doc while I'm there. In between times we have a GP here on St. Croix who takes care of me. So far, between the warmth and and water, I haven't needed any cortizone injections. Knock wood.

There are several medical specialties that are underrepresented- no pulmonologists, no endocrinologists, few dermatologists (in a place where skin cancer has got to be epidemic!), no cardiac surgeons and presently no cardiologist on St Thomas... This is part of the mantra "You are not in the States anymore" and why, if you have medical concerns, you should be extra vigilant in your research.

Wow...any idea what the emergency air evacuation insurance runs? I saw mention of it somewhere online, and I can't imagine it's inexpensive.

MASA - Medical Air Services - runs about $125 per year for an individual. It is very inexpensive.

Thanks...I found their website and read up on them a bit and it sounds like very good, affordable insurance...until you come to the part where they tell you that in many cases the destination has to be at least 100 miles away. As I understand it, Puerto Rico is around 90 miles by plane, and has virtually every medical practice known, including Rheumatology. I guess my next step is to price out round-trips from Christiansted to San Juan.
