Naturalist - Gardener (Grant Funded)
Primary duties included day to day maintenance and improvement of botanical gardens (Rockland Hammock, Palm, Butterfly, and other native ornamental gardens). To include trimming, planting, invasive exotic plant removal, lawn maintenance etc. using various hand tools and operating power equipment. Maintain native plant nursery and screen house, propagate native plants. Additional duties included guiding visitors through the garden, identifying and explaining the plants, animals, reptiles, birds and butterflies. I was also responsible for any injured animal, bird, reptile, or any other animal in gardens area and to capture, calm them and send them to the proper animal rescue.

Park Ranger
55%: Biologist's assistant, natural resources management, exotic plant removal via natural and chemical means, natural habitat restoration, propagate native plants and maintain native plant nursery and screen house. Conduct butterfly surveys, sea turtle (evaluate nests), assist in the bird banding station, assist in plant surveys. Capture exotic, feral or nuisance animal, injured animals, birds, exotic reptile capture and determine their disposition. Train and supervise volunteers during projects, (Habitat restoration, exotic plant removal, nursery weeding, trash pick-ups, etc.) Kept BIO records, and presented findings to biologist for review and analysis.
25%: Visitor interaction: Interpretive historic lighthouse tours and nature walks etc. Explain regulations covering common use practices in recreation areas and encourage safe use of park resources. Answer visitor's questions and providing other miscellaneous services to visitors.
15%: Checked usage and condition of public areas, and other recreation areas for safety, sanitation, and maintenance needs and reports findings to supervisor. General park maintenance (carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and electrical), hurricane recovery, blaze new trails, maintain old ones, and trash.
5% Kept records, both paper and on computers. Assist at park’s toll booth as necessary.
Made use and maintained hand tools, power tools, chainsaws, pole saws and other powered equipment. Used tractors, ATVs and P/U trucks to accomplish this.

Veterans Medical Center, Miami, Fl US, 10/2001 - 3/2002
Horticultural Therapy Aide (Temporary)
Primary duties: Assist Horticultural Therapist with gardening classes for nursing home residents. To include setting up class, working with the residents on their projects, etc. Also helped advanced residents one on one with their individual projects. Like bonsai, topiary, orchids, and cooking; we also had an herbs and greens garden.
Additional duties: Maintain gardens and screen house. In ground and container plant care, to include plant disease prevention, fertilization and propagation of ornamental plants such as orchids, bromeliads, bonsai, topiary for butterfly friendly and herb gardens. Create butterfly garden, display butterfly life-cycle in aquariums. Plan, setup and help run fund raising events, mainly plant and craft sales. Plant identification, native and exotic. Herbicide/Fertilizer preparation and application.

Other jobs: Construction foreman, have worked in most construction fields; electronics mechanic, component level maintenance; Kmart stocker, grocery clerk, (to keep busy).

Hobbies: Nature photography, starting butterfly gardens, learning the local birds and local history, generally hanging out in the back country.
