Restaurant and Bar/Tavern List required. as well as some questions about moving to St. Croix
I have lived in Chicago and the surrounding area my whole life. Born and raised. However the last few winters has just worn me out of the city living, the traffic, and the cold weather. I have been out of a job for over a year now, and am interested in opening up a business in St. Croix.
Now I'm a 27 year old "city boy" who eats out every chance I get, and a got out drinking and socializing pretty much everyday. Before I make the big decision and get a private loan to open a business in St. Croix, I was wondering what kind and how many restaurants and bars were on the island. I have never been to St. Croix, so I was also wondering what kind of night life and social life is out there. I am a laid back chill on the beach all day kinda guy, however I do like to mingle, and meet new people. Is St. Croix more of a retirement community, a couples community, a singles community, or a bunch of it all. I have done my research on what to do to open a business in St. Croix, as well as the differences in the cities/areas, but I just can't get a good description of how the social life is out there.
Regretfully I know no one who has been down to the Virgin Islands. That being said, I can use as much help as possible to make this life changing decision. It has always been a dream of mine to live on the islands, but chasing a dream isn't that easy.
St Croix is the perfect place for you to realize your dreams -- insufficient numbers of bars, and the community is definitely "a bunch of it all." Lots of beaching during the day and mingling at night. And since you're 27, have been unemployed for a year, and have never been here, it's smart of you to seek our input before making such an important decision. You should grab that private loan and get down here and open that bar.
LOL. Ok now seriously, kirano, who is going to give you a loan to come to a place you've never been to open a business?
If you ARE serious, ccome down for 4-6 weeks to visit and check things out for yourself. If you can't afford to do that, you can't afford to move here and start a business.
I want to come down and check out the community and area real soon, but the cost of the "spring break" travel season is kinda expensive...I have followed the prices for a month a so so far and it seems the prices are damn high between march and mid april (spring break time)...do you guys get alot of spring breakers?... A weeks trip between that week that I saw was between 1500-6000 depending on week and hotel...I would like to come down for a month and spend about 5000 for the whole trip....if you guys have any great ideas, or cheap temporary housing/vacation rentals in mind, please let me know....
I'd say 1500 for a week flight + hotel is a pretty good deal.
Depending on where you are coming from, flights can be expensive. That is one cost to factor in when deciding to move--can you afford the $500+ plane ticket to leave island if there is an emergency or something you really need to be home for? Cottages by the Sea is one of the cheaper hotels, running about 100-150 during season. After April 15th is considered "off season" so you may want to alter your dates to get a cheaper rate. Also, you can ask about monthly rates, which some hotels will give you. Some of the places in downtown C'sted like King Christian have good off season rates too.
