Residing with kids - the furry kind
Evening all,
From what I've read around this forum and the interwebs, it's clear that having dogs cuts down on the prospective pool of rental units available.
Now obviously no one can give an exact figure, but what would you guesstimate, based upon your experience as residents, that percentage cut is? Say, if I had a 10# dog and a 60# dog, that the pool would be decreased by 25%? 50%?
Also, would you agree that 3 dogs would exponentially increase the difficulty of finding a rental?
Hope you have a great weekend.
Thanks.

Two large dogs St Thomas I would estimate 70% apartments (100% condos) and 30% houses. Three dogs exponentially higher. Good luck but it's not going to be easy! I have several friends with several dogs but they all own their own homes.
Your percentages are reasonable estimates.
If the dogs are considered family members then there is no option but to ONLY look at places that allow pets.
Do not get frustrated with the limited options because you will find one that fits your needs.
Although there is smaller percentage of apartments to choose from, you only need one place!

I am sure that when I was first searching on STX there was a realtor with a big paw print on some of her listings. Her name was Lucretia (Sandy), but I don't recall the last name or if she dealt with any properties on the other islands.
Alllll depends on what time of year you come. I've look for rentals in bust season and they said no to my two indoor cats. Now I've looked in off season June-August and people would take just about anything for a year lease BUT you wont find many rentals if any with fenced yards.
