Residency and Tax Law
Topic starter
I'm an attorney and I'm thinking of relocating to St. Thomas. My question is whether there's any call for my field of expertise down there. My practice concentrates mainly on personal income tax residency issues for high-net-worth individuals. In other words, I do tax planning and audit defense for snowbirds, cross-border commuters, and people who relocate to another state but still maintain significant ties to their state of origin. The issue here is generally whether you're still a resident of your "home" state (and subject to its resident taxes) even though you live elsewhere. Has anyone faced this problem, and if so, did you/would you consult legal help? Thanks for your input!
