Renting on St. John
I'm looking for help finding a rental on St. John. Is there a rental agency that does this? I've looked online and I'm finding very few actual rentals that aren't scams.
I'm looking for a furnished studio or 1 bedroom close to Cruz Bay that is available early to mid July. I appreciate any and all help.
Thank you,
Matt
Tradewinds, the STJ weekly paper, Island Trader the VI weekly advertiser, the classified forum on this site, the bulletin Board at Connections, VI Craigslist, The Daily News -- are all good places to find info on rentals but I am not sure what you are looking for -- would you rent something now sight unseen?, looking for some price and location guidelines?? , or trying to set up an appointment to see some rentals?
You may find it more effective to plan for a few days at a guest house and search for suitable housing once you are here but doing some research ahead of time won't hurt for sure.
I doubt anyone will recommend renting something before you get here - the long term rental market on STJ is very small but ranges from actual shanties to luxurious digs.
I've tried almost all those sites already. I was hoping to find someone that deals with St. John rentals exclusively. Most sites lump all the islands together and it's very difficult to sort them when they are listed by neighborhood sometimes. I realize that renting something site unseen isn't the best way to go, but I'd at least like to have some possibilities. What I would like the most is to speak with someone that deals in rentals if there is a real estate agency there. I'm sure that I will have to stay at a guest house for a little while at least, but does anyone know of someone I can speak to before I arrive or when I arrive?
Call BJ Harris - St. John Properties - 340- 693-8485 or 800-283-1746
Thanks. I'll do that in the morning.
Did you try Scenic Properties? They are the biggest long term rental management company on St. John, 340-693-7777. It's really best to be on island to look at places before you commit. You can also check the board at Connections in Cruz Bay. They have postings for rentals, jobs, things for sale, services, etc.
Thanks Julie.
I agree to call St.John Properties.. BJ's assistant Nellie is great. Also @ L&L Jeep rental a nice guy named Levi works there and has two apartments for rent very close to town
Matt,
I am in the same process. I was down last month and I can tell you that housing market was tight in or around Cruz Bay, almost non existant. The best time to find a place is in Sept/Oct. Craigslist is almost impossible unless you have someone on island who can verify the listing and view the property for you. I have two friends that just rented a three bedroom house on STT for $1500.00, they found it by driving around and looking for FOR RENT signs. That's my plan, move down and do a short term rental and then find a permenant place.
