Renting an unfurnished unit
Anyone had experience in renting an unfurnished apartment or condo on St Croix?
I know one can rent furniture on island. Anyone done that?
What might one pay to rent or buy 1 or 2 bedroom's worth of furniture?
Ideas on advantages and disadvantages of renting unfurnished?
Yes I have rented unfurnished units, we came with furniture.
No I have not rented furniture. We brought our own, but even then I wouldn't rent, you will end up paying a trillion times what the item is worth. Just buy new (there are always sales and you can totally negotiate), used or there is always a moving sale.
There is only one rental place so I think they could answer that quickly. Stateside to rent a corporate furnished unit you are looking at about 3k a month at least. Here you could easily pick up your furniture for a one bedroom under a thousand or under $500 if you get a good moving sale. Besides do you really need to have everything at once? We all end up with too much stuff, take your time and find what you like. A bed, a table, & tv is all you need to start usually.
Advantages for unfurnished....rent is usually cheaper.
For renting furnished, I think this is really the way to go your first year or two. Get to know the island, figure out what side of it you want to live on, figure out if you really want to live here after the honeymoon is over without making a big expense.
Hi Edward,
I'm sure plenty of people rent unfurnished apartments, but furnished is definitely more prevelent here for the obvious reasons. First...people moving here don't usually bring furniture with them; second, lots of people don't actually stay all that long, so buying furniture doesn't make sense. I'm wondering the motivation behind the question....You could simply check with the furniture rental co. for prices and you can certainly just walk into any number of furniture stores to see what's what. Also, often we see moving sales and various furniture for sale on the classifieds here on this forum. Advantages and disadvantages are pretty self-evident, too. So...what's the real question?? Are you looking for a new place, do you hate your furniture where you are, are you feeling like you want to actually OWN your own stuff?
Im my opinion...the Rent to Own store doesn't do too much actual rental business. I don't know that for sure, just common sense tells me most of their business would come from people who cannot finance furniture through a traditional furniture store, in the usual way. They have to take advantage of the "no credit check" and pay by the week. Never thought of it before, but that might be a good place to look for used furniture that has been repo'd. I was in the Rent to Own on STT once, and most of their furniture was too big and overstuffed, just not "island style".
