After I get my car inspected (pass) and then stand in line at Window 1 for them to check to see if I have tickets (pass), they give me a number. I sit down, if I can find a seat, then wait for my number to be called. Then they call your number to go to the window, is like when you are at a deli counter? Meaning they call 45, 50, 51, 52, 53 to Window 4. Do you line up by how the numbers were called or by whoever gets to the window first (not by numerical order-first come, first serve)? What is the routine way for lining up after the numbers are called to a certain window? Thanks!

In my experience on STX, it's sort-of whoever gets to the counter first. However, if there appears to be someone in line who's paying attention to who should be where, it would be polite to get in numerical order.

Stay by the counter. Then RUN! First come first served.

After they check me for tickets, I will ask what window they are using for renewing registrations and stand there, because it seems like the number they give you don't mean a thing. And being polite isn't the way to go, unfortunately 🙁

Im just curious question, when they check for tickets, is that through the US database or just for the islands? I have always wanted to know that.

I don't think they hand out those numbers in order, do they?

When I was there with a friend, they called out numbers in a row to go to Window 4, then they called out numbers to go to Window 5. They were in numerical order for both windows.
So, that's why I'm asking what is the routine to lining up at the window that you are called to. Especially if it is your number is the one called first in the list of numbers called to the window. I would believe you should line up numerically. That's the polite way.

Just for your information, the employee behind the window is no longer busy with previous numbers. This is a new batch of numbers called to the window. And the paperwork the employee has on their desk has your number paper clipped to your paperwork and it is in numerical order for the employee. You hand the employee your number and payment.

Think I will take a few friends to stand at each window for me and hold a spot for me, until its my turn and my number is called 😉

If you can find a few friends to waste their day at DMV - they are GOOD friends.

Don't get stuck behind a safari taxi that doesn't have their paperwork together & almost knocks down the stall by hitting the roof. Held up the inspection line. And made the female inspectior irritated. I don't blame her, I would be too. Only one inspector working just after they opened at 7:30am.

She checked only my rear turn signals, brake, & reverse lights. Passed.

Friend was holding spot in line at Window 1, for tickets, but had to let 3 people ahead cause of me being held up at inspection. My turn, no tickets. They give you your paperwork back and you had to turn it in to either Window 2 or 3 (announced so listen cause that could change daily). Then you wait for your name to be called to go to what Window to get your registration, etc. (They no longer give out numbers)

Go to the Window called, wait in line, pay $53.00 (car), get your paperwork & sticker, receipt. They take cash, credit cards. Then I was out of there. Took about an hour.
Nobody was rude.
Had good service
