I am planning on making the big move to STT from Colorado Springs early November. Read most of the messages pertaining to relocation...and East Ender and Islander, what great people you are helping us (clueless) out!! I have a few questions of my own that I hope you can answer: 1) any recommendations on b&b or modest place to stay close to Red Hook or Sapphire Beach, while I look for an apartment?? 2)any contacts that You may have to get me hooked up on a tour boat--day trips.........I have lots of hospitality experience rest.mgr., bartender, hotel mgmt, travel agent..........I want to enjoy life for a while and my dream for the last year has been to make it back to STT and work on a small or large capacity tour boat/powerboat/tri-maran (sp) 3)does anyone want to move to Colorado and trade places with me???????? Right now I am just hoping to sell my car, rent my place out, and make it down there sooooooooon (i am teasing about the 3rd option, but if anyone is interested, do let me know).
4)what about scooters on STT? and finally, but most importantly---thank you in advance for any suggestions!!!

Great people, huh! Go ahead, flattery will get you everywhere!! 😉
Let me see: 1) Place in Red Hook: I don't know of any B&B/guest house type place. There may be someone who rents apts short term, but haven't seen any ads lately. Remember that St Thomas is only 13 miles long, so no matter where you stay, it won't be that far away. (eg. Crystal Palace or Villa Fairview) 2) Jobs on boats: Just go into Red Hook and talk to Limnos, Charter Boat Center, Captain Nautica, etc. I know that Limnos requires crew to have CPR certification, so if you have it, you would be ahead of the game. 3) Trade to Colorado Springs: Already been there! Glory, Glory Colorado! Hurray for the silver and the gold! p.s. the humidity will really kick you when you first arrive, but you can give up moisturizer for your face!!! 4) Scooters on St Thomas: They are here. I am not a fan because of the drivers in the other vehicles! Would recommend that you REALLY know how to ride them and have good insurance... Good luck!

I have a short term vacation rental which is not too expensive - look at www.stthomasvirginisland.com. $100/night for a 2 bedroom apartment. It is a 12-15 minute drive to Red Hook (I drive it twice a day).

Would not recommend scooters here. As East Ender said - too dangerous with the other drivers on the roads. They just don't see you.

Thanks for all your advice--I am getting my cpr certification on Tues. Where is this "health card" to be gotten at??
And just one more question--do you think mid-november arrival might be soon enough for a smilin girl to "land" a job on a tour boat?? I am keeping a good attitude.........so I hope that optimism works out!
I forgot how much I enjoy packing up a house:(

Tamara: Re: a health card-You have to go to the Roy L. Scheider Hospital, Health Department on the second floor. You might call them or ask someone (waitress, bartender- they all have to have one for employment) about what you need to do. Before Thanksgiving is probably good, they will be gearing up and looking for help...
