*Husband and I are interested in moving to maybe St.Thomas, I am in medical field and law enforcement and he is in diesel mechanics and farming. How hard is it to locate jobs, housing and information to do this? Who would be the best to contact for this info. Thanks.

Donna -Medical work here is good depending on what you do, law enforcement is up in the air here due to bad publicity recently re the VIPDs; if your husband can work on Marine Diesel he should have no problem working, farming is non-existent here.

I am a Registered Respiratory Therapist working a travel assignment on STT, if you have a profession that is in demand I can tell you who to contact.

Hi Parrothead, thank you for the info. I am a certified nursing assistance and certified in medical records. I also have a certification in medication. My husband is a diesel mechanic on diesel engines in truck, such as semi's and large trucks. Don't think he knows much about marine engines. Thanks so much for replying to my post, any info would be helpful. How hard is it to find a sm apt, such as a one bedroom in a decent neighborhood? Our children are all grown and it is just him and I. Thanks again, Donna

It is fairly easy to find an apartment in a decent area. Depending on where you are moving from and what you are used to paying in rent price may be an issue. Rents for a one bedroom can run anywhere from $600 to $1200/month. Check the Island Trader. THis is where the rentals are advertised. You can also look at the moving guide link on this page which gives a lot of info.

Hi Donna, Thank you for the info, our house payment here in South Dakota runs $700.00 per month but that is for a really nice 5 bedroom. I know the cost of living will be alot higher I'm sure there, but we are looking at 1 for right now until we find what we want in something else or even if we are going to like it enough to stay. I appreciate the help and I will look in the Island Trader. Have a nice day, donna

We are also relocating to St.Thomas.Does anyone know how hard it is to open a business, and how do the local people respond to it. Also, how do we get our car and Harley there?

See link at the top for the Settler's Handbook for the USVI, check the Moving Guide drop down menu there also.
