Hello,
I am in the process of relocating to either St Thomas or St Croix around mid to end of July, 03. I have done quite a bit of research on the USVIs' and still have questions regarding a residence and employment, My field is bartending and Management. I have been working in night clubs in Las Vegas for 14 years. If someone has some information about the clubs on St Thomas or St Croix and would like to respond or email me that would be great. As far as housing, I am moving with two dogs and would like to find either a house or apartment for rent. Even a rental to share would be considered. I dont know what areas are nice to live in, although I can't imagine that there would be too many places on the islands that wouldn't be nice

Hello Mick,

Las Vegas clubs will be way different then clubs in the USVI, generally speaking.

There are lots of bars and bar/club/restaurants though. So you would surely find bartending work. Bar management you might find as well on both islands. Resorts might also be an option, as most of restaurants and bars - that you might find work at.

Housing will be difficult with the 2 dogs but not impossiable.

What I would suggest is order a Settlers Handbook, a book all about moving to the islands. From http://www.vitraders.com also request newspapers and island trader... read through the papers so you can see whats up in the islands day to day and also call some of the apartment listings to ask about dogs, this way you might get leads that you can follow up on once on island.

There are some areas that aren't that great or good or nice.... this is the islands but not everyone is on vacation as someone mentioned in another post, lots of folks live here and they don't all have the same means or income. Once you have narrowed down an island, then we can suggest areas that are good.

Usually in the restaurant and bar scene, jobs are more difficult to attain if not on island, however as a manager, chef ect. it is easier then say a waitress or waiter that are more numerous in terms of inquires and applications. You might go through the yellow pages and contact some resort or clubs/bar/restaurants and see about faxing your resume if there are openings for managers, ast. managers or bartender. yellow pages are online at http://www.viphonebook.com
