hello there. My husband and I are considering relocatiog from Alaska to T and C islands, for a flying job for him. Could anyone answer the following questions for me.
#1 what is the average rental for a small house apartment for 2 people and a baby?
#2 How does health insurance work down there if you are an American citizen?
#3 Could I as an American citizen obtain some sort of part time work, do I need a visa, etc.
#4 If you bring a pet, does it have to go through quarantine, like in Europe?
any infor would be very apreciated
thank you
stephanie

If your husband landed in the U.S. Virgin Islands and thought he was in the Turks and Caicos I imagine there'd be a fair bit of confusion.

That's what you've done Stephanie. You've landed on a U.S. Virgin Islands message board so you're probably not going to get much in the way of answers.

Well, as rkurpiers said, you have posted your question on the wrong froum but perhaps I can shed some light on the working issue. In order for you to work you will have to obtain your own Work Permit (I assume your husband's potential employer has already applied for or obtained a work permit for him) but they are difficult to obtain unless you have a unique skill and your potential employer must prove that there are non locals qualified to fill that position. Your husband's Work Permit only covers him, not you.

You can find some residency and work permit requirements at: www.dempseyandcompany.com/immigration.htm

You might also want to do a google search for the T&C government website which will give you information about residency, work permits and brining your pet to the island (I recll reading that there are certain requirements).

As for housing costs, they will vary greatly depending on which of the T&C's you plan to reside. Provo is the most expensive, followed by Grand Turk. The other islands in the T&C's are sparsely populated and will have much lower rentals but may not be suitable locations for someone who is working on one of the other islands. You don't say where in Alaska you are now living but in all probably you'll find housing costs to be higher than costs for a similar size apartment or house where you now live.

Hope this gives you a start in finding answers to your questions.
