relocating from chicago

I am looking to relocate from Chicago and get into the same type of employment possibly. I know that that may be difficult and am just fine with working in the tourism industry as well. I am not looking to move until September and am not set on a single island, but St. Thomas seems to be the best in terms of diverse employment. Let me know if you have any leads or find out anything that could help my transition.

Both you and Karl have had enough of the 50 below zero wind chill, huh? I grew up in the Schaumburg area. I am do in the islands in a couple of weeks. I'll keep my ear to the ground and stay in touch.

Hi Lindsay! I too am originally from Chicago (Glendale Heights and Naperville/Aurora) and am living in Indianapolis right now. I will be moving to STJ in September.

There is a classified ad up right now for chief legal counsel on STT. You have to be licensed to practice in the USVI's, but maybe it could be a contact for you or a place to start to look for other positions.

Chicago born and most of my professional life. In 1994 moved to LA and learned that trees and grass and sunshine, pretty much everyday, were a necessary ingredient to my life. Chicago winters with month after month of grey, no sun........man, what took me so long to get away. I lived in River Plaza right downtown behind the Wrigley Building - even with the clock actually.......and could not wait till Spring arrived and green leaves broke out in the city and pushed back the hard edges of concrete. Miss lots of good things there including friends.

Lived on STT for a little over a year and 1/2. I spent 20 days on STX and did not find it a happy place - for ME, I hasten to add. Others find it their own paradise.

My suggestion.......as has been noted on this board before - a pre-move visit is pretty much a mandatory deal. You really do want to take a look before you make this leap.

Not discouraging you for a second - just urging some idea of what's in store.

I haven't been a Bears fan since they last won the Superbowl... how long has that been? That was a great year to be in Chicago. My ex married Superior Court Judge Harry F. Polos' son... at a brash 22 I learned what it was like to get "spanked" by the politically powerful in the Windy City. Went from there to Scottsdale, AZ for 10+ years. Still have some fond memories, though. Hope your move goes well.

Karl- I didn't think you were planning on taking a pre-move visit...good to hear you've got one in the works. I'll be on my pre-move visit to STJ (which I wasn't going to do because I spent a couple of weeks on the island several years back) May 16-May 22nd. Will be there for my birthday, actually. I figured I'd better do it because I may see things differently by looking at it as my new home. Plus, I'm going to open a checking account when I'm there and figure out if my cell phone works. When will you be there?

Kind of fell into a situation where a premove visit was basically offered to me, all expenses. I need to figure out exact dates, but it probably wouldn't be until at least June, maybe even July. That might be a good time anyhow. I know that my phone will work(SHOULD WORK, it doesn't get good service half the time in my apartment in Chicago), because Cingular has service in the VI's. You will have to let me know how your premove visit goes and if there are any places that I should check out or stay at, etc.
